So, we waited in line and finally got to see the guy in red. Maeve was slightly nervous, but decided it was in her best interest to remind him that she wanted a 'Sofia the First' princess dress for Christmas. We are definitely past the freak out/cry phase, but Clara did not disappoint... so, that was fun.

Despite having very fun weekends of late, remind me next year that I actually enjoy sticking close to home around the holidays. I feel like I'm running out of time to actually enjoy the local stuff... and the
'at home' stuff. We decided to postpone hair for a couple of days so that we could finally ice and decorate the gingerbread house tonight -- and so that I could put the tired one to bed early. The latter part didn't work out as well. Ha.
Someone would've preferred to have just eaten all the candy and icing instead...
'Don't smile, Maeve!'
Well, I wasn't organized enough this year to buy Maeve a typical advent calendar, despite the fact that she keeps asking when she'll get to have her daily chocolate fix... but, at least I managed to get the 12 books for the 12 Days of Christmas tradition. Here are this year's picks:
We ventured north this weekend to spend time with Ann, Mike, Shannon, Jon, and the kids... plus we spent the afternoon and night at my brother's too. We had a visit with Mark, Misha and the kids on the way back home.... It was super fun, as always. Sometimes I just don't feel like there's enough time for work... We want more friend and family time. ha.
Turns out this isn't the best attire for trampolining in December...
Yes. Much better. Ha.
We had a cold spell recently, but it was accompanied by absolutely beautiful Pacific Northwest days... So, the scenery could not have been any better than at the beach house. We spent last weekend with Chelsea, Amy, and Amber, plus the kids. Its always a bit chaotic, but easy, at the same time, because we're such good friends. The kids always look forward to weekends away together too. It was a special weekend, and I'm so glad we spent it together...
Gerrit, Liam, Maeve, Clara, Ruby, and Avery... aka, buds.
There's been a lot going on, and therefore I thought I'd take the opportunity to catch up with the blog now that I've put Maeve to bed. Generally, once I have bid my 'good night's', all is well and I can clock out. Apparently not tonight. Our bedtime rule is that she can do what she wants in her room, but she can't come out. So, she's not coming out of her room, but she's been calling down a lot and now is soliciting my help to build a tent. So, since I've declined the invitation to go back upstairs, I'm being treated to Maeve's dramatic flair.
"Mooooooooooooooommmmmmmmm. You're not being niiiiicceeee..... You're being meeeeeaaaannnnnn"
"Mooooooooooooooommmmmmmmm. You're not being helpful..........."
"You're not helping me and God's going to put you in jail......." (my personal favorite. ha)
We've been a wee bit more emotional as of late. Could be the season. Could be the lack of sleep. Could be all the excitement. Could be that she's accountable for all her actions now that there is an elf watching every move. Could be that she's 4 1/2.... Could be it all combined.
This is 'Trouble', with a capital "T". Ha.

Santa sent us an Elf. We borrowed our friend's "Elf on the Shelf" book and DVD, and are now aware of the rules of engagement. She needed a name, so Maeve named her Isabelle. Maeve practically laughed in my face when I told her Isabelle was real. "No, she's not... she's just pretend!" But, I insisted and her skepticism turned into curiosity, which then turned into complete belief. I kept seeing her sneak peeks at Isabelle throughout the morning and by evening, she was telling me all about the rules and why she can't talk to us. She just woke up while I was typing this asking me if Isabelle is still on the shelf... apparently she's even dreaming about her. Awesome. I figure, this can only be a good thing....
There are a lot of things to celebrate around the Thanksgiving weekend... its close to our 'Family Day', usually Stacy's birthday lands on the weekend, and of course, Thanksgiving. Todd, Stacy, Taryn, and Kate have come down for the last few years on this weekend, and we keep evolving our annual tradition. This year, we actually celebrated Thanksgiving together. Growing up in Canada, US Thanksgiving has often just been a bonus holiday that I celebrate with friends etc, but I had to work this year on Thanksgiving, so Todd, Stacy and Kate came down a day early (Taryn had to stay behind this year for a dance commitment... boo) and entertained Maeve for me. We had our big turkey dinner on Friday and we declared it 'Lounge Weekend'. It was the perfect mix of playing, shopping, eating, and relaxing....
Our "Thanksgiving Tree"
Todd and Stacy
Thanksgiving Dinner... with birthday party hats, as it was Birthday weekend too. Maeve took 'Lounge Weekend' to heart and never changed out of her jammies on Friday. Hey, why not?
What? Its fine, right?
Getting the tree has become part of our annual tradition too...
And, Maeve taunting her cousin.... its about right, too.
Decorating the tree with her cousin (we missed Taryn).
We amped up our festive spirit to include outdoor lights this year. So fun.
Happy, cozy, and festive...
Thank you so much Todd, Stacy, and Kate. Todd - for helping around my house and fixing odd things here and there, and helping make the best turkey soup ever... of course. Kate - thanks for being the best cousin and playing with Maeve ALL weekend long, and even babysitting her one night while we hit up the movie theater. And, Stacy -- for decluttering and reorganizing my house ONCE AGAIN. Oh how I love this gift of yours. Two runs to Goodwill and a ridiculous amount of garbage and recycling... Now I have my spare room back, the storage closet totally organized and emptied, my kitchen cupboards totally reorganized, all of Maeve's toy's organized, my laundry closet is reorganized... what else did I miss? Thank you for always helping and putting a fire under me. I love you all so much....
