I Do Love Weekends....

...and I wish we could extend this one longer.  It was such a great mix of lounge and play.  Now that the summer has hit, we aren't signed up for any dance or gymnastics, so we were able to loaf around all morning on Friday.  We didn't get out of our jammies until 2pm.  Ahhhh.  It was so great and I can't tell you the last time we did that.  We ended up the evening at JJ & Lisa's new home, and they hosted a great BBQ in their cozy place.

Saturday was our busy day, starting out with watching "Monster's University" as part of the Ben Towne Foundation Family Event.  The kids had a great time (Maeve dressed up like it was opening night at the opera, but who would expect any less?).  The Ben Towne Foundation is doing great things and I'm glad it is so well supported... but it can always use more support (hint hint... )

I think they all ingested about a pounds worth of popcorn... impressive, really.

Maeve and I then biked over to Fremont to partake in their annual Solstice festivities.  Maeve didn't really notice the biking nude nudies (anyone from here knows exactly what I'm talking about), but was more overjoyed that people had body painted themselves... She would squeal in delight.

Maeve scored herself a lollipop from some sort of planned parenthood booth... thankfully her first choice was the lollipop and not the brightly colored condom packages instead.  Ha ha.

And then we met up with Sela, Lucy and their mom's, Erin and Anna -- our own Single Mom's group.  Its so fun -- the girls love each other.  We all live within about 5 miles of each other and they are all the same age.  We are lucky to have each other.

We had to burn a little energy post dinner, so off to the park we went...

Jumping beans...

Friends.....

Father's Day...

Well, Maeve and I were a week late in making "Grandpa's/Pop's/Godfather's" day crafts, so its only fitting that the Father's Day post is a week delayed too (shhhhh... don't tell them, they haven't received them yet).

I have the best dad in the world... I love him.  He has a quiet nature to him, but its in those less hectic moments that I know how much he loves me.... and Maeve.  We are so lucky.....

Maeve is very cognizant that she doesn't have a dad.  She will tell people, unprompted, that she doesn't have a dad, but that she has a birth dad.  She also tells people that she has special people in her life -- her Grandpa, Lollipop, and her Godfather's -- Dan and Mike.

Both Dan and Mike make special time for Maeve.  Almost every time we visit up north, Mike makes a point of taking Maeve out on a date.  Dan also takes Maeve on dates, and so kindly goes to Maeve's "Father's Day" parties at school and other special events happening locally... I am so appreciative of both of them for normalizing our unique family and making Maeve feel extra loved.  Here is Dan at Maeve's school party this week...

And, I think we can safely assume we know Maeve's love language...  ha.

Leavenworth Weekend...

This weekend we spent a couple of nights at Amy and Brent's cabin to celebrate Brent's birthday and all the father's that came up for their special day.  I feel like we just kick started our summer of camping and the outdoors. Yay.  Although we stayed at the cabin, it is just one step removed from camping, so it is the perfect transition.  We had a beautiful sunny weekend and the kids all played well (although, my child needed reminding at times, but for the most part, it seemed to work out.  We're in yet another phase... sigh).  Thanks for a great weekend Amy and Brent!

The property is awesome and the kids loved exploring and hiking around.  This year was so fun because the kids could be a little bit more independent and trusted to play on the front side of the hill...

The swing and hammock were the two major highlights for the kids.  Maeve even puked after one particular wild ride in the hammock... We learned our lesson after that.  Ha.  But, she puked and rallied...

Clara soaring...

The pink and purple polk-a-dot girls...

The kids managed to play 'Sequence' rather successfully...

The crew...

The birthday boy enjoying his corn on the cob...

The cabin... so perfect.

We spent a couple of hours fishing this afternoon before we ventured home...

The kids were loving fishing...

Maeve reeling in her first fish...

Her first fish!

Clara's first fish ever too.... (Bennett has fished plenty, but he wasn't very interested in getting his picture taken this afternoon)..

Maeve was a bit of a skeptic going into this whole thing, and then she didn't want to leave the boat after she realized how fun it all is...

Family photo... the best one I managed...

Maeve and Bennett looking for fish... pondering life.

We are lucky to live so close to such beautiful scenery...  I wish I'd have remembered my real camera.  Thank goodness for the iPhone then...

Tea Party, Anybody??

A Birthday and Spa Day...

Kenzie just had her fourth birthday last week and invited Maeve to celebrate her birthday with her -- spa style.  I'm not sure that Maeve has been this excited to do something in a very long time.  We were counting down the number of sleeps until Kenzie's birthday and the girls thoroughly enjoyed their pampering and lunch afterwards.  How different this generation is compared to mine.  I'm not even sure I knew what a manicure or pedicure even was until I was close to twenty....  Happy birthday, Kenzie...  You are a very sweet little, excuse me, big girl.

Does a Preschooler Live Here?

My mom was chuckling a couple of weeks ago when she was down how my place had been overrun by a little 4 year old... and reminded me that I had said I thought I could maintain a house that wasn't completely obvious that a child lived here.  Ha ha.  Our place isn't that big and its filled with 'all things Maeve'.  We just acquired my mom's piano/keyboard today to continue the quest to expose and form a growing young mind.  Its fun and I wouldn't have it any other way... I just wanted to document, with pictures, now so that I can show Maeve years down the road what I did for her :-)

Family Time Part 2

We stopped in for lunch with Gran and Pop before we headed back south... it was short and brief, but it was nice to see them and enjoy lunch outside on the deck..

Family Time Part 1

Dad and Lynn wanted to take all the adult kids to lunch to celebrate some big birthdays this year, which was a great excuse to get us all together (minus the Aussies, Leah and Andrew)...  It was so great to catch up with everyone and we had a fantastic time.  Thanks Dad and Lynn (And, thanks Ann and Mike for watching Maeve for me... :-))

Neighborhood Carnival...

After the epic dance performance this morning, Maeve and I endured a straight 6 hours of hair time to achieve our summer 'do.  Maeve was very patient and I'm pretty sure I killed some of her brain cells today as she watched 5.5 hours of movies and TV all in one sitting.  My back is sore, but all in all, I think she looks pretty darn cute, and hopefully it will last a long time :-)

We headed to a neighborhood school carnival tonight and had a great time.  Maeve even exclaimed that this was a "great party".  We ran into Steph, Karl, Anna, and Peter while we were down there, so that made both of us happy to spend the rest of the evening with them.  I'm just going to consider today a write-off as far as our nutritional intake... particularly Maeve's.

The fire fighters showed up with their engine, pulled out their hoses, and the kids got to soak other kids.  How much fun is that?  Maeve was super giddy waiting in line for her turn.  I can tell that this summer is going to be so great because what a fun age!  Four comes with its own set of challenges, but she is so into everything that we're doing and with sheer excitement.  Fun times.
