I'll Show You Who's in Charge...

Moooooommmmm.... I'm trying to eat!  I don't want to smile for a picture! But, let me show you what I'm willing to do for you...

Ughhh... Okay...

You want a picture??  I'll give you a picture...

I've got a little sassy eye roll move here for you...

I've got an exasperated groan look too...

I've got an 'I don't even know what to do with you' look...

And, I've been working on a new eye roll/crossed eyes/tongue out look too...

Happy?  Fantastic.

Random Tidbits....

We are full-on and I feel exhausted all the time.  Physically and mentally... she's wearing me out!  ha ha.  We've been up to a lot, but haven't travelled out of town in a few weeks, so that's been nice.  Maeve is a social being... Nature vs nurture?  Hard to tell, but I'm thankful, because I tend to want to be on the go a lot too.  We're thankful for our large circle of friends, and therefore want to play with them as much as possible.

Speaking of friends... here are just a few of the kids and their mom's that Maeve had me draw.  The game was having those drawn guess who was who.

Always one to accessorize.  Checking on the wee thing before heading to bed myself, I found that she had placed a flower to her sleeping cap at some point.  Hilarious...

She LOVES to dance.   And, she loves her creative ballet class -- so, it was perfectly natural for her to put on her ballet slippers while watching an episode of Angela Ballerina, and try to mimic Angela's ballet moves....

As I so look forward to the 4's, with great hopes of a bit more reasonableness on someone's part (I'm not going to name names... eh hem, this one), Maeve is trying make the most of her 3's while they're still here.  What is up with the whining??  It is like nails down the chalkboard.  Honestly.  We have very good moments, and then not so good moments.  I try my best parenting skills to not respond to whines... I have my good moments and not so good moments too.  I feel like if you get a whining day, that's your lot.  Some days there's no whining at all (when she's at daycare... ha ha).  Anywho, it'll pass.  right?

Also, I do believe that Maeve honestly thinks that she's in charge.  I mean, really.  And, I am just a thorn in her side when I'm the GPS that keeps rerouting her.  She will tell me repeatedly that she wants to do something even though it was denied in round 1 - "but I reeeeaaaally want to watch TV" (escalating in the whine too, I might add)... Good thing I love her so much.  My friend is dealing with similar behavior in their house and they've just made it a drinking game.  For every whine there is wine.   Ha ha.

Rapunzel....

Honestly... I feel like I'm living and breathing this girl, excuse me, princess, named, Rapunzel.  So, fittingly, the children's play, "Rapunzel" was playing close by, and it seemed almost cruel not to take Maeve.  We invited our other princess lover, Avery and her mom, Amber to join us.  The girls really enjoyed the show and music, and felt very special going to the theater...

There is About to be a Princess in the House....

Its happening people.... Maeve has stopped sucking her thumb.  Full stop.  And, it was seamless.

Obviously, she was ready and just needed the motivation to say goodbye to her most faithful companion.  A small part of me is sad as I was so thankful that Maeve had her thumb when she was little and transitioning to her big new scary world...  and it was her 'go-to' anytime she was stressed or overwhelmed. And, then it clearly just became a habit over the last couple of years.  Now she is officially a big kid.

So, Rapunzel is in the house... Maeve is unaware of this fact thus far as she may not be able to contain herself knowing it was awaiting her in just the next room.  She will get to open the box on Friday - day 14 of abstaining from the thumb.  I keep feeling like I sold my soul... I still cannot believe that my credit card made this purchase.  But, I guess the thousands saved in orthodontics and the sheer joy this dress will bring during this phase of her life is worth it.

Coincidentally, Maeve had a dentist appointment today and was able to tell him of her success, which was received with much praise.  She is so proud of herself...  Yay Maeve.

I Think This is "Take 3...."

It is best to admit defeat and use it to your benefit rather than continue fighting a lost cause based solely on principle.  Case in point -- the princess phase.  I have fought it kicking and screaming, but DNA, preschool friends, and commercialism has won out.  And, because it is literally almost all that she can think and talk about, getting a bonafide brand new Rapunzel dress is something Maeve, apparently, cannot live without.  So, I am willing to sell my soul and buy the dress to avoid thousands in orthodontic bills later in life.... And, Maeve is 100% on board with this plan.  She asks to have the icky stuff put on her nails and looks at the picture of the dress she is about to inherit several times a day.... The night went no problem too...  so, that's a major bonus.   She is so proud of herself.  I think we have a winning situation here.  Yay!

Introducing....

...the newest member of our posse family -- Peyton Elizabeth.  Melanie gave birth to her in the wee hours of the morning on Tuesday, and Maeve and I were able to meet her today.  She's so sweet... and endured a lot of poking and prodding from Maeve.  I tried to rescue her the best I could :-) Welcome sweet girl.....  Congratulations Melanie and James!

New House Rules...

It would be hard to miss from our photos of late, but chances are you've noticed that Maeve has a favorite "princess dress" that she can be found wearing ALL THE FREAKIN' TIME.  Now, anyone that knows me is aware that I'm not a fan of the big princess movement, but I embrace dress-up and accessorizing.  And, well, despite Maeve not being aware of 90% of who the Disney princesses are, she is still enamored by the whole phenomenon...  I don't buy her Disney-wear, but she does get hand-me-downs, which had this gem in it.  Generally, I do allow Maeve to express herself however she chooses, most of the time (which is pretty adorable, I have to say).  However, because we are literally wearing this dress all day, every day, I felt like I needed to set some limits and categorize it as a dress-up gown, which can be worn at all times while at home.  Is that mean?  But, I'd prefer it not to feel like Groundhog's Day, every day...

Bipolor Weekend...

The weather was a little bizarre this weekend.  We watched an impressive hail storm thunder down on Saturday afternoon from our windows, but when it all stopped, we had to go crunch and play in the snow.  Thandie and her mom were over for a play date at the time... so the girls had fun.

And, then today it was so beautiful we were out gardening, taking walks, and playing at Seattle Center... Maeve was brave enough to tempt fate and touch the metal fountain while it was taking a break.  She got lucky... this time.

Splash Zone....

No fear, whatsoever, of the pool.  While we were in Arizona, Maeve was doing somersaults from the side of the pool into the water.  In Palm Springs, she and Zane were jumping buddies off the rocks into the pool.  I was so happy to see Maeve's progress throughout the holidays.  I can't just leave her in the pool to swim around yet, but she is definitely swimming.  It looks like she's drowning a lot of the time, but she's figuring it out.  She also loves to go deep sea swimming and dive for items off the bottom of the pool....

Here are some of my favorite splash photos from the trip... (thanks Mike for all the kid throwing!)

Spring Break - Palm Springs...

The middle section of our holidays were spent in Palm Springs with friends -- Mark, Misha, Daphne, Fiona and Ann, Mike, Kaya, and Zane.  Super fun and we had a sweet set up.

Where the adults lounged...

And, where the kids played... (well, lets be honest, all of us)

The Easter Bunny came to Palm Springs!

Maeve 'helping' Daphne...

Oh, hey mom...  do you like my new headband?  And, can I have a treat??

We were even able to meet up with Grandpa and Grandma while in Palm Springs as they were on a holiday there too... As I mentioned earlier, it hard to be on holidays and therefore Maeve just fell asleep on the bench at the restaurant.
