Guess How I'm Feeling Right Now...

We had a bit of an exhausting day physically and emotionally on the ski hill Sunday... I'm not sure if the novelty of skiing has run its course, or she just needs Bennett or another friend alongside her to keep the motivation.  Nevertheless, we had a day with a lot of ups and downs.    I held my patience better than some other parents I witnessed on the hill though.  ha. I recently heard another parent say this -   "you earn your stripes teaching kids to ski".  Why yes,  yes you do.  :-)  Maeve nearly fell asleep in the sled getting pulled to the car...

So... when I said, "Smile Maeve"... this is what I got from her.  I big fat raspberry.  Ha ha.  I love the spunk (well, most of the time....)

Swim Lessons...

Piggy backing on the enthusiasm that Maeve showed for swimming while we were in Arizona, she is signed up for swim lessons (thank you for the early birthday present, Gran and Pop)...  Maeve loves the water.  She really thinks she can swim... a minor detail is that she can't get her head above water yet.  She is the kid that jumps in the pool without anyone there... I have reached down and grabbed her by her bathing suit straps to drag her out... to which, she gets a little peeved at me for pulling her out, I might add.

Mt Bachelor!

So, Amy's parents rent a house every year over President's Day Week in Sun River and invite all their kids and families to join the fun.  This year, we were invited to join in on the fun... and of course, we said yes.  I am never one to pass up good things.  So, let the road trip begin.  I love road trips.  Thankfully, Maeve is a willing participant.  We caravanned with Brent, Amy, Bennett, and Clara....

Mile 65... an abrupt stop on the side of the highway.  Clara puked all over herself and her carseat.  Nice, Clara....  Thankfully we had brought our spare carseat and the Jonesies didn't have to enjoy the lovely aroma for the remaining 6.5 hours of the trip.  ha.

Another pull over to the side of the road... this time it was an emergent wildlife tour.  Apparently there were sheep or deer or something on the hillside.  Ummm... okay.

At this point Amy says, "Welcome to my life..."  ha ha.

Maeve's trying to figure out what the heck is going on...

Ahhhhhhhh....

So, we had grand plans to ski with Maeve and Bennett both days on the hill, but they had different grand plans... and they did not include skiing.  Snot and tears were prevalent and therefore Amy drove both kids back down to the mountain to Grandma, and we enjoyed 1 1/2 glorious days of grown up skiing.  Oh, how I've missed skiing...  It was awesome.

Who's the rock star in this story??  Amy's mom - Jean (or Eugene, if you ask Maeve)...  She watched 1-newly 4 year old, 2- 3 year olds, and 3- 1.5 year olds all by herself.

No, Jean... we came right home after skiing.  We swear...

I have to say... the kids were really good and had a lot of fun together...  (At least I think they were mostly good... but, then again, we were skiing half the time).  ha

Road trip home...

At some point Maeve had control of my phone and realized she could just hold the camera button down... she took hundreds of beautiful pictures this way...

At least she was happy.

7.5 hour trip each way was really good.  We listened to countless tunes/audio books and resorted to the iPad on the last hour of each day.  All in all, a success.  Good thing.  We're road tripping again this weekend :-)

Thank you Lain and Jean for letting us join in on the family fun...

Valentine's Day 2013

Oh my... we are delinquent with blogging.  We've been very busy playing.  But, rewinding a couple of weeks, here is our Valentine's Day.  It was a work day/school day... so, we had about 10 mins on either side of the day to celebrate.

These are the beautiful valentine's that Maeve made for her friends at school.  I had, of course, purchased the requisite box of valentines before I was flagged to the fact that we were encouraged to make homemade valentines... what??  Well, this is as good as it gets everybody.

 Happy Valentine's Day, sweet girl!

She was very excited to have a new stuffie, Cookie... and equally excited to be eating Skittles at 6am on the way to school.

My valentine from Maeve.  I love these things....

This smile...

...warms my heart.

Thursday....

... everything and anything will happen on "Thursday" in Maeve's world.  And, nothing can ever happen tomorrow.  These are the stipulations, as declared by Maeve.

Acting 101 with Uncle Todd...

Practice Makes Perfect...

Living in the city is fun, and has a lot of opportunity -- but what it isn't ideal for is riding bikes and scooters.  Its possible where we live, but not great for learning -- and therefore Maeve isn't that interested in investing any time in really learning how to ride.  So, because I knew we were going to be down for a week in prime bike riding and scooter territory, I asked my mom to look for a used bike and scooter.  She did her job well as Maeve was booking it down the road by the end of the week and successfully making turns.

We also went swimming everyday, and Maeve decided during this trip that she really wanted to swim... and she mostly figured it out, except for the minor fact of getting her head above water.  But, I was so happy and impressed with her motivation.  By the end of the trip she was pushing me away and swimming towards the middle of the pool, thinking she really didn't need me (she really did... minor thing called breathing), and would also belly flop dive in the opposite direction that I was standing... So, the child needs constant supervision in the pool, obviously, but I couldn't be happier.  She is signed up for swimming lesson starting next week to keep up the momentum...

Oh... and let me tell you, she was a great sleeper in AZ this trip... gotta love pool time :-)

Here's a quick glance at Maeve learning to swim...

Grandpa B...

My sweet Grandpa passed away a few weeks ago... He lived a long and happy life for 95 years -- playing golf right up until a few months ago.  He also enjoyed a life of flying airplanes for pleasure -- and then talking about flying, as true pilots do.  He was always happy and proud of his family.  It is sad that he is no longer with us, but I know that I was lucky to have him for as long as I did.  Maeve and I traveled down to Arizona last week to spend time with family and celebrate my Grandpa... It was a lovely trip.

I had been able to see my Grandpa every year since my Mom and Jamie decided to snowbird in AZ in their neighborhood...

And, I'm so glad that Maeve was able to spend time with her Great Grandpa B -- this was taken last Spring...

He and my Grandma were married for 74 years!

All my cousins were able to fly out to celebrate Grandpa's life except one, who unexpectedly fell ill the day before he was to fly out... and my sister has a valid excuse for not making it due to the fact that she lives in Australia.

Maeve plowing through the photo shoot...  "Waaaaatch Out!!"

A family reunion in honor of Grandpa...

Grandma with Wayne and Toni -- who I have such a sweet spot for...

Occasionally we manage to get dressed up and look presentable...

Enjoying the sunshine between the service and celebration dinner...

What's Arizona if there isn't golf cart rides around the neighborhood??

Maeve enjoyed her breakfasts outside on her table...

Taking every opportunity to fancify -- wearing Ashley's high heels...

4 Generations with my loving and strong Grandma...

Maeve wouldn't take out her thumb... so, we thought we'd join her...
