Camp Side By Side 2013

Yesterday we got back from volunteering at Camp Side by Side for the week.  It is a camp that I love and it helps me be a better nurse the rest of the year, I swear.  It is a camp for families that have a child with cancer -- and I love seeing our families have the opportunity to be families.  So often I don't even get to meet all the family members and this is a place that I get to witness them being together and just having fun, which is a stark contrast to hospital life.  We had a GREAT week.  The families were great and the weather was awesome.  And, its always super fun to volunteer alongside so many of our friends.  Maeve is aware that some of the kids are the ones I help at the hospital, but hasn't quite grasped the full meaning -- so, she is allowed to be a camper too and is provided with her own buddy -- which was Josie again this year.  I can't show pictures of the families attending camp, so here are a LOT of photos from the week, Maeve-style (and some of our friends)....

I love this picture.  Maeve caught in mid-skip with her buddy, Josie...

Slip-n-slide!

Just Daphne and Maeve braving it this time...

Josie, Maeve, and Dan...

I can't remember what they called this move -- it was a launching twist over 4 people... something like that anyway.

Buddy shot...

Maeve couldn't get enough of the pool...

It was an explorer/pirate theme this year...  a couple of pirates in character...

Fiona and Maeve with their buddies...

Fashion forward pirate...

Carnival day was awesome... My lens doesn't zoom out so I couldn't capture the whole scene... it was amazing.

Unicorns were the popular choice of 4 year olds, apparently.

Josie was so good to Maeve...

Beautiful spot... I didn't capture a decent Rainier shot -- but, it looms right over camp.

Lance did the music.  Maeve has been singing a lot of pirate songs ever since...

Annie and Dan...

The Amphitheater was transformed into a ship.

Ready to set out to sea

Beckett's new girlfriend

Paige getting some Annie love.

So much time and effort is put into this camp by so many to make it amazing for families... but its amazing for us, the volunteers, too.  We're so lucky to be a part of it...
