Foreshadowing or Mirror Image?

A couple of afternoons ago we were a bit exasperated with each other... both having to take deep breaths and count to 10 to deal with each other.  So, When I pulled out the camera, it may have pushed a few buttons...  But, hey, it captured the scene perfectly.  Ha Ha.  Oh, the tweens and teens are going to be eventful...  I won't have to guess how Maeve is feeling... :-)

"NO!  I don't want my picture taken!"

Fine then... I'll just give you this unimpressed face...

Mom!  You're killing me... Seriously.

I love you Maeve!!  Ha ha.  At least we have free flowing communication with each other, right?!

Puyallup Fair...

We did the Puyallup today... it was fun.  Although carnivals are a different experience as adults compared to the wonder it holds as a child.  I no longer have the love, but I am willing to overlook this small fact to let my next generation have the full experience that I had.   First order of business...  elephant ears.

What the  heck?  How am I supposed to eat this?

Oh... I see.

Yep.  I'm a fan...

And then we hit the rides... we did this one twice.

Making friends on the swing ride.  Afterwards Maeve was trying to stalk her new bff...  She didn't understand why I just let the innocent family get away...

Fair fun.  The ensemble is awesome.  There were a lot of stripes and polk-a-dots happening... and the number of barrettes in the hair was non negotiable, in case you were wondering

Completing the day with a corn dog... I felt ill for about 6 hours after our fair experience...

Checking out the animals...

Playing With My New Lens

So, I broke my camera lens, as I mentioned, and had been stuck taking manual photos... my new fun lens showed up in the mail today, but Maeve is already asleep... so I had to get creative.  I'm going to like this new toy... I'm excited for real life photos now.

Red Light.... STOP!!!!

Apparently they have been learning about traffic lights and what all the colors mean in Maeve's class.  Its pretty hilarious what a backseat driver she has become.  She can spot a red light about 5 miles away and starts yelling at me to STOP... because "red means stop".  And, when it turns green, she gets very frustrated if I don't go right away, despite other cars being in my way.  The thing that confuses her the most though is the yellow light.  Over and over again she goes through the rules of all the light colors and "yellow means slow down"....  My speeding up really messes with her.  Its good to keep her on her toes, right?

Well Rounded...

Maeve is coming into her own and I find that she enjoys accessorizing more and more.  Twenty minutes before this picture was taken she was decked out in necklaces and bracelets.  I call her my Fancy Nancy.  But, I do love that she enjoys all avenues of play, fairly gender neutral.  I decided it was time to upgrade the craft table to make her designing tools more accessible.  So, out came the drill, hammer, and leveler... Someone could not have been more excited about home improvement projects.  She ran to get her tool kit right away and wanted to help me hammer in the anchors.  So, now we have a new and improved play station.... thanks to a little assistance :-)

"Pwabably"

If you have a discussion with Maeve for any amount of time these days,  you're probably going to hear her say "pwabably" a lot.  Its pretty stinking cute.  We are in a good spot these days.  I find her hilarious and fascinating.  But, you pwabably already knew that :-)

A Trip to the Cascades...

Of course, I can't have a completely free weekend of nothing to do, so I had decided I wanted to venture to Leavenworth for the day.  We invited our friends, Inge and Thandie to join us for our adventure, and off we went.  Our destination was Smallwood's Harvest, and it did not disappoint.  We had planned to tool around the area for the day, but ended up spending our entire time playing at Smallwood's.  The girls had a great time, as did Inge and myself.

We followed a little trail to the duck pond...

And then we went for a ride on the cow train...

We had a visit with the chicken pen during our ride...

A good day always involves a little swing action...

Where's Maeve?

 Cute girls...

More chicken visits...

Horse rides and ice cream cones...

A petting zoo...

Silly Sheep!

We fed the swans...

And, we all learned a valuable lesson... Thandie especially -- don't get too close to llama's as they could decide to spit their entire mouthful of food and slobber right in your face.  Poor Thandie.  But, by the time we left we decided that llama's were silly and a bit naughty.

Fun day all around.

Someone has been reading a lot of Fancy Nancy recently...

Ethiopian New Years

Today we celebrated Ethiopian New Years.  It was really fun.  Maeve LOVED the music and tried to mimic all the dancers who were up on stage... slightly miffed that she wasn't allowed up there during the performances, but made up for it with stellar dancing afterwards.

Heading off to the party, all the while, carrying a saw and screwdriver... you can never be too prepared...

Meeting up with some of our Ethiopian play group friends...

A lot of the kids sat down right in front... so you know who else was there...

And, then they started to copy all the dancers...

After the festivities at the Ethiopian Community Center,  we headed for a little Ethiopian feast with friends at a nearby restaurant... it turned into a bit of a gong show as Maeve and her friend, Keegan, were a little riled up.  But, they definitely enjoyed celebrating their country's holiday... Proud to be Ethiopian :-)

Twins....

My mom gave Maeve an Ethiopian doll, Rahel, a couple of weeks ago in anticipation of Ethiopian New Years... just because she's Gran, and she can.  Maeve loves it.  This morning I found her on my bed playing with Rahel.  I think the photos are precious...

Maeve inflicting a little detangling on Rahel before her own session took place this afternoon...

Funny Friends..

Backyard Camping...

We spent a couple days away this weekend as we returned to Leann's childhood home for a night of backyard camping and pool time during the day -- our second annual trip.  It was a hot weekend, which made the really frigid pool somewhat tolerable... although, I allowed whatever willing grownup around, play with my child in the pool when possible.  ha.  Thanks for organizing, Leann!  Here are some shots of our weekend...

My very happy fish in the pool...

Rosanne and Brennan...

"Hey Maeve, this time look at me when you jump into the pool, okay?!"
