Abrir

Maeve is still a loyal Dora fan and continues to be swept into her adventurous world.  Being a Dora fan is not a passive thing -- active participation is required.  Because Dora is bilingual, she asks for assistance in opening a variety of things by using the spanish word, "abrir", and Maeve willingly complies.  Cute.... And, now funny because now Maeve won't open her mouth to get her teeth brushed until I say "abrir".  I have to say it several times during the teeth cleaning process.  She thinks its hilarious...  Funny girl.

Bike Rides and Friends...

The last few days have felt like a holiday weekend.  I'm not sure why except I think I am so happy to be home after being gone for so many weekends.  We made use of our time home and managed to get in a run, playground time, lunch out, spray park, dinner at friends, breakfast out, Sounder's game, movie night, lots of story time, and a bike ride to Red Hook Brewery in Woodinville.  I love my little side kick, and I love that I managed to catch up with friends we hadn't seen in a while.

Amy and I biked about 25 miles today with the kids in tow.  We have done the STP together twice, but it was clear we are not in any sort of biking shape currently... ha.  I had to ride my clunky bike with Maeve on the back, but Amy had to tow both her kids.  She wins.  It was a very fun day.

Excuse helmet heads...

Outside lunch at Red Hook

We had mandatory playground stops on the way back... it was for the kids!

We made it...

Maeve can sleep anywhere...  apparently I provided a comfortable ride for her.  ha.

Our First Sounder's Game

Melanie had a couple extra tickets to today's Sounder's game and we gladly accepted her offer to come to come along.  How fun!  It was a great game to attend because of course, the Vancouver Whitecaps were the opposition... so, it was a win win.

Maeve was a bit uncertain of all the happenings at first as it was quite loud...

And, she most definitely did not like the fireworks throughout the game...

But by mid game she was screaming and yelling and having a good time with everybody...

The game zapped all her energy... Not only did I hold her for a large portion of the game because our seats were standing seats (super fun), but she fell asleep as we were walking to the bus stop.  Sack of potatoes... a cute sack of potatoes though.

Summertime

It would appear that we only get one week of really hot and sunny weather...  but, we enjoyed every minute of it.  There's an unwritten rule, that even if you feel like you're melting because you're not used to hot hot weather, you never ever complain... I didn't.  I love it.

We all met up at the spray park yesterday so the kids could run around and get wet.  Amy was the favorite mom out of the group because she showed up with a box of popsicles...

Amy told them to say 'cheese', and this is what she got...  nice modeling pose, Maeve.

Buddies just chillin'

Random Stuff...

Here are just a couple of funny/fun photos...

Getting back into a sleep routine post holidays can be tough... I also think we have to drop the nap (sniff sniff) as its affecting our night, and well, that isn't worth the 1-2 hour break in the day.  This particular night, going to sleep wasn't going well... she's not allowed to come out of her room at bedtime, so this was the alternative solution.  Ha ha.

Maeve likes to strike a pose now when she knows your taking her picture...

Take 2... a little too fierce, Maeve...

Our new kitty cat...

Anna's birthday party included face painting...

Sticky Sticky Mess...

This is Maeve eating a popsicle, captured by Misha...

Camp Side by Side 2012

We headed back to Camp Side by Side this summer.  We took last year off, but Maeve is at a better age to resume our volunteering role.  Camp Side by Side is a family camp for families who have a child with cancer, or completed therapy.  It is such a energy boosting week for me to see our patients, and their families, have a fantastic time.  It is something you see very rarely in the hospital and I am proud to play a small part in their enjoyment.  It is also so great to see kids post therapy that I haven't seen in a long time... this camp is so needed by many of our families, but I really think that I need it too.

It is great to come to camp and volunteer because we also love those who volunteer alongside us.  It is really fun.  Maeve loved it because she was able to continue her fun with Pax, Beckett, Daphne, and Fiona.  She is wondering where her friends are now that we're back at home.

I am lucky because I get to bring Maeve along with me... and as far as she was concerned, she enjoyed a week of camp herself.  The meaning of camp was lost on her, but soon enough I hope to have this week be a meaningful week of volunteering for both of us. Maeve ran alongside all the children who were at camp, and therefore was assigned a buddy to play with her and do all that she wanted.  How lucky were we that Josie, or Jo Jo, was Maeve's buddy.  Josie is such a sweet and amazing young lady -- she was ultra patient with an, umm, sometimes bossy and sassy 3 year old (I talked to Maeve about that...).  She could not have been more kind, generous, and willing.  Thank you Josie...  you are awesome.

Another sad story to tell about my camera -- so taking my camera camping the week before was disappointing due to the missing battery that I'd left at home... but what turned out to be more disappointing was discovering that I had broken my lens on the camping trip (I may have stupidly thrown the camera in a bag of random items instead of the camera case).  The autofocus is shot.  So, due to my frustration I took only a handful of photos.  I also knew that Misha was taking about 300+ photos a day as the camp photographer, and I plan on getting my hands on the DVD.   But, what camp and my work teaches me... there are definitely much bigger problems to have than a broken lens.  I'll deal.  No problem.

Here are some shots.  I can't include campers... so here are mostly Maeve and Josie :-)

Buddy pairing...

Lollipops... a daily treat (maybe more often...)

A canoe ride -- with Sam.
