What She's Up To...

I feel like Maeve is just exploding with personality, and at times mischief too.  I don't want to forget some of the funny things she's doing and saying these days before they pass onto other things... so, here's a "What She's Up To" post.

  • She's definitely a strong individual with her own ideas about things, but still very much a mommy's girl and loves to snuggle and lounge on top of me.
  • She can also be very sensitive and burst into tears if I become upset about a behavior... most of the time, that is!  ha.  I'm going to take this as a good thing, as it means she has a conscience.
  • The girl has an impressive ability to make things dramatic, by the way.  Others may crack under the pressure of instantaneous crocodile tears, but I'm a seasoned veteran... I'm onto her :-)
  • "But I want to" is heard repeatedly when told we're all done with something that she wants to continue.
  • She has embraced the, 'its better to ask for forgiveness than permission' mentality.  She apologizes all the time, if that tells you anything.
  • She is all about telling stories these days.  "One day...."  These stories are a combination of truth and imagination.
  • She has made up some new words.  A favorite that she likes to throw into sentences is "kiki"... I have no idea what its true definition is, but it sends her into hysterics when she uses it.
  • "Oh, I forgot" is commonly replied after she receives an answer to a question she's asked.
  • She can still be found running into the bathroom so that she can do her 'potty talk' in the accepted environment.
  • One phrase I see some mileage on is - '"I didn't do anything" when the hand is caught in the cookie jar... or when not caught, she's a confessor of "I didn't do_____".
  • Another thing that I have definitely noticed is how much of a wiggle worm she has become over the last month.  She can concentrate on her puzzles and games etc, but she is always in some form of motion except for when she's sleeping or listening to a story.  Can't be still to save her life.
  • She is also very excited about turning 3 next month and cheers 'whaoo hooo' at the mention of a birthday party for her.
  • One of our favorite games right now is whispering into each others ear that we 'love each other more than _____', followed by a huge gasp and grin on our parts.  Precious.  Food items seem to frequent the list the most.  Shocking, on both of our parts :-)

Despite some of the challenges that come with this age, I wouldn't give it up for anything.  She is so fun right now... and I love how much more we can participate in activities and events.  And, I love watching how the world unfolds through her eyes.

Here are just a couple of fun pictures from Friday - Top Pot doughnut pre soccer... and then Bennett and Maeve hydrating midway through a 'grueling' soccer practice.

Bellingham!

We took a quick trip up to the 'ham yesterday afternoon to hang out with another collection of very cool and quality people we are lucky to have in our lives.  CJ and Lance hosted and we all came.  The kids are all at a fun age where they play so well together... the grownups can actually talk a bit now.  Pretty fun.  We need to make this happen way more frequently...  we've got a plan in place :-)

Fiona and Maeve -- only 12 days apart.  Both ready to have big birthdays.

Mark provided the wrestling and tickle fun of the evening...

Some of that "talking" I was mentioning...

Maeve riding her tricycle solo now... She hasn't quite mastered the steering thing yet.

I love this picture with her tongue sticking out... clearly concentrating on the task at hand.

Really, Beckett?  Could you be any cuter??

Dinnertime grub with some of the kids...

Randomness...

Life is never boring...  Here are shots mostly taken from my iPhone over the past week...

Maeve had an owie on her cheek, hence the bandaid, and wanted to show off her tongue too...

Dentist appointment -- She would've let them do anything to her as long as they didn't turn off Dora, which was playing on the ceiling TV...

Bennett and Maeve at soccer lessons...

JJ and Lisa came over for dinner.  They are always super fun...

Maeve and I made cookies on Saturday

Maeve had fun with Elizabeth and their neighbor friend, Lainey, this morning while I went for my long run.  Lainey had lipstick and nail polish in her purse.  They were both applied within a nanosecond...

Pretty...

Park fun this afternoon with Amber, Avery, and Gerrit.  Oh, how we like the sunshine here.

Our Weekend :-)

One thing is for certain, if you live in the Pacific Northwest and the sun makes itself known, you are outside and enjoying every second of it. We tolerate 7-8 months of ridiculousness for 4-5 months of fantastic. Its not even that warm out, but a good portion of us are sporting our shorts and flip flops, showing off our pasty whiteness, and convertibles are now noticeable. Ahhhhhh...

I am exhausted. And, Maeve has been in bed for an hour already. But we are happy campers. What did we pack in Friday through Sunday?

- 3 mile run
-pancake breakfast with Bennett, Clara, and Amy
-soccer
-shopping and lunch out
-playdate with Elizabeth and Kathleen
-Shill came over for a play and dinner
-doughnut and playground date with Thandie and Inge
-a gymboree birthday party
-beach fun with Avery, Gerrit, and Amber
-backyard dinner with Avery, Gerrit, Amber, and Chris
-8 mile run
-cheering on Grace at her soccer game
-walk to the library
-reading stories for about an hour outside at the park

So so much fun. Boooo... the weekend is over :-(

Blog Worthy Photos...

I have a free spirit on my hands in more ways than one, but these photos capture yet another Maeve ensemble. As we were heading out of the house to have a great playdate with Elizabeth, a clothing change was necessary. This is what was pulled together, complete with a purple velvet purse slung onto her shoulder. Aside from the awesome green sunglasses, my favorite part of the outfit are her arctic boots... required because it was a brutal sunny 60 something degrees outside. Kathleen kept calling her California girl. Fun time had by all.

(ps - ignore the wild hair -- that will all be remedied tomorrow. Today was too chocked full of fun to tackle a big hair day)

Easter...

Well, the Easter Bunny managed to find our house, which was a great surprise to Maeve as she'd forgotten all about that bunny when she woke up this morning. She was slightly timid with the thought of the Easter Bunny being in our house and leaving a trail of jelly beans to her basket o' fun, but when assured that he was no longer in the house, Maeve was a more willing participant in the basket search. And, once she discovered there was chocolate in her basket, there was no turning back as far as accepting the Easter Bunny as a friend rather than a foe.

Maeve checking out her loot... going straight for the chocolate, of course. Like mother, like daughter.

Pretty soon everything was everywhere...

After church we headed to Annie and Dan's house for brunch. The Easter Bunny was super generous this year and left a little basket for Maeve at their house too...

Sofie and Maeve...

There was also a little Easter egg hunt...

Not particularly caring that there were more eggs to be found as the most important task at hand was eating treats from the currently discovered egg...

Maeve provided the musical entertainment during brunch...

The Maeve and Annie lovefest continues...

Annie's Dad, aka, Papa Nate, and Maeve exchange fresh picked 'flowers'...

It was a beautiful weekend and very fun. I'm sad its over already....

Easter Egg Hunt...

So we met Avery at the park for the big Easter Egg Hunt. Both Maeve and Avery were really excited.

Two happy girls pre-hunt. (I love that Maeve, once again, had her Halloween bag for egg collection because I wasn't organized to think of anything else, and Avery had fashioned a Starbucks bag as her Easter bag.)

My hopes of Maeve becoming a track athlete are dwindling. First, she's not the fastest runner you've ever come across. And secondly, apparently a big release of kids running is a bit scary. Poor thing only got the one egg she found pre-hunt because she was a bit overwhelmed and needed a snuggle instead. Fortunately the Easter Bunny was there and handed out a couple of treats too, which was plenty, as far as Maeve was concerned.

Headed back to the car. Life is good :-)

An Afternoon With Alyssa

Alyssa is a rockstar of a person who volunteered to play with Maeve for the afternoon and evening while I worked yesterday. Thanks Alyssa! Here is how they spent their time...

Off to the park. Starting off with the smaller slide...

Graduating to the big slide, which went well for a while up until Maeve decided to do a belly slide, which sent her flying off the end, apparently.

The tears were alleviated with this chocolate ice cream treat...

But, I guess the chocolate ice cream accidently fell in the sand, so it was replaced with this fruity popsicle, which was cared for a bit better...

Enjoying a bit of sunshine...

A walk on the beach...

Taking in the view...

Back home, and a change of attire for dinner out, of course. And yes, she is only wearing tights, a shirt, sparkly shoes, and her purse. She had a vision that would not be compromised... always fashion forward.

Taryn, the Photographer...

I told Taryn she could use my camera whenever, during the trip... I love these shots.
