I Picked Out My Outfit Today....

(Which is nothing new... but she was particularly proud of this ensemble. I think the skull and crossbones Halloween socks were a nice addition, personally)

Saturday Night...

Popcorn, Kitty, and Lightening McQueen... could it get any better, says Maeve.

Failure...

The no thumb sucking quest has resulted in a big fat "F". Maeve likes to suck her thumb and tell me that she's sucking her thumb as a reminder that I should put on the yucky nail polish, so that she can obtain the coveted once a day lollipop. Then, within a couple of hours she decides she can tolerate the taste and I find her sucking her thumb. I have also somehow reminded her, in this whole process, that she can be ambidextrous in her thumb sucking. When she was a baby she would utilize both thumbs, but at some point she declared her left thumb to be the one of choice. Now she can be found sucking either thumb again, and more frequently than before. Oh sigh. Maybe I don't care yet? Obviously she's not on board. But, it seems like breaking the habit should be easier now verses when she's older. I don't really know. I've got to regroup and rethink this whole thing...

Taking Advantage...

We've had a two day reprieve from the rain, so everyone is outside enjoying the slight increase in temperature and intermittent sunshine. It provides a little hope of some semblance of Spring eventually.

We are so lucky because we live only a few miles from the beach and a newly revamped playground.

I see a lot more visits here in the near future. At least I hope I do... come on weather!

Technical Difficulties...

Maeve and Dan had a date today. Maeve was very excited to go with Dan and see all the fish at the aquarium. During their time away, Annie and I were texting Dan and hounding him for photos... because, that's just what we do. There was a cute photo of Maeve eating a doughnut on their first stop. There was also a fun shot of Maeve under hundreds of small fish. But this is my favorite because it made me laugh out loud. There was a specific request for a picture of the two of them together... apparently this was the best that could be done. Ha ha. One looks pained while the other looks completely indifferent.

Thank you for providing these special experiences, Dan.... we both love it.

My Goofball Singing About Monkey's...

A Green Weekend...

Despite not feeling 100%, we dove head first into the holiday spirit. We headed over to Lumia's house (Maeve's friend from school) for a St. Patty's day breakfast full of 'all things green'. The Leprechaun's had even left some chocolate gold behind for the kids to find. I forgot my camera. Boo. And then last night, Dan and Annie took us out for dinner and a movie. We were hoping for green beer, but the establishment was above green beer I guess. Anywho... we all went to see The Lorax. Maeve stuffed herself full of popcorn and licorice and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Neither Maeve nor I had ever read the book, so we were promptly taken to the nearby Barnes and Noble to remedy that fact. Maeve has had me read the story to her multiple times since last night. It was a hit. All and all, a fun weekend....

Chalk art -- Maeve is clearly advanced in drawing and writing.

Green breakfast followed by a mostly green lunch...

Her favorite new book...

Why not start Sunday off with green pancakes? How much food coloring is too much??

Catch up...

I suppose its time for a little catch up. Maeve and I have been a bit under the weather this past week, so I haven't been real inspired to blog -- we're a bit of a petri dish over here. First, Maeve had been dealing with her cold for the last couple of months and then came down with hand, foot, mouth early in the week (thank you daycare)... and now I'm dealing with a bit of strep throat, and constantly checking my own hands and feet. Party house... wanna visit?

But, prior to having full disclosures before visits and play dates, we did a few things. First off, Chels and Liam were here for a short visit. So a few of us were able to gather together for a quick visit and eat pizza. Liam is getting so big... It was fun to see them!

And, then we celebrated Jill who is expecting twin girls this summer. Yay Jill! We're so happy for you!

And, then there was some gardening happening over at Keegan's house last weekend. Maybe Maeve will be the green thumb of the house... I certainly don't have one.

And, how's the thumb thing going, you may ask. Actually, pretty well. We have eradicated thumb sucking in the day hours for sure. Nighttime still is an issue. I didn't have the heart to reapply the icky stuff at nighttime when Maeve was dealing with the hand, foot, mouth pain... and now that I'm not feeling great, I don't want to disrupt sleep more than its already happening, but we'll have to consider it soon. Maeve thinks a lollipop a day is awesome though.

Bye Bye Thumb...

And, its begun. An attempt to break a fierce habit of Maeve's -- thumbsucking. A big part of me is sad because I have to acknowledge that my baby is no longer a baby. And, I feel nostalgic too -- thumbsucking was such a vital part of her coping and soothing during our bonding and attachment phase. It still provides comfort for her when she's upset, but its mostly just a habit now, so we need to find other ways to fill this void as her teeth are starting to take a hit.

Maeve wasn't really psyched about giving up the thumb, but with a little sugar motivation, I'm hoping this will go okay. I never had to bribe her for potty training, so this is a new arena for me. Maeve will get a lollipop everyday during this new transition... lollipops are like crack to her, so I'm hoping its enough. I applied a touch of mavala stop on her thumb nail and we're now 5 hours in. There was been some drooling, spitting, and 'owie...owie' (aka ewwww...), but overall she's doing well. Her major temper tantrum at the playground earlier today was coincidental, I'm hoping. However, I am anticipating some restless sleep over the next couple of weeks (she sucks her thumb in her sleep)... but, between me being sleep deprived anyway (my latest late night addiction are the Hunger Game series), and the sun waking up a little person earlier than normal, I figure now is the time to get this done.

Wish us luck....

Art & Cupcakes...

Inge and I have been trying to arrange a play date with Maeve and Thandi Rose for awhile now... we finally managed it. We had a bonus friend along today -- Sela. We took the girls to the pottery painting store and let them pick out their animals and the paint colors, and let them go at it. No doubt the most beautiful dragon, panda, crocodile and giraffe are being fired right now. Works of pure art genius...

Thandi Rose, Sela, and Maeve -- where the magic took place...

Thandi Rose... so cute.

And yes, someone still likes to taste paint...

Then it was off to the cupcake store. The more sprinkles the better...

Life is good...

Bubbles!

It was sunny and balmy out this afternoon... so, it seemed like a perfect afternoon to blow bubbles...

Friday Morning Pancakes...

Its been awhile since the Friday morning pancake gang made an appearance here. The kids are getting bigger and more opinionated... but, still fun and something we look forward to each week. And, I do love that its not my child half dressed this time...

Early Day...

We've been battling a certain cold virus back and forth for a couple of months in our household. We toggle back and forth who gets it and for how long -- Maeve is the current petri dish. The cold has evolved into the coughing kind. Unfortunately the cough is so violent that she puked during nap time today at daycare -- thus resulting in a phone call to her mommy that requested she be picked up early. Ummm. okay, I mean, if I have to.... :-)

When Maeve's not coughing, she's basically feeling okay. Slightly down, but nothing major. We had a lovely rest of the day... there was a train set built and played with, puzzles completed, books read, and painting masterpieces...

It was like a painting orchestra...

A little body painting action too... and yes, she targeted certain anatomy...

Fun times...

Similarities...

Of late, we've been dealing with a few behaviors that are, no doubt, leading us towards our 3's. I keep thinking of this toy and how Maeve parallels it's function at times. The only difference is that Maeve's button is when I say "no" to her -- I get a crumpled mess on the floor instead ;-)

Thanksgiving Shots...

Our friend, Bryce, wanted to practice taking pictures with his brand, spanking, new film camera... so, practice away, we said. He learned that Maeve has picked up speed from the last time he took her pictures... especially for indoor film work. But, he did manage to capture some very sweet moments.
