Formal Snack Time...

A Little Pre-Christmas, Christmas...

Over the last week, there have been a few presents exchanged with Maeve's friends, which has been super fun and getting Maeve geared up for the big day... We're also in the middle of the 12 days of Christmas book gifts everyday -- and there seems to be something fun going on all the time.  January is going to be the biggest let down for Maeve.  There won't be parties all the time and constant gift giving.

On Tuesday we had our Wilson Christmas...  some of Maeve's favorite people in the world.  Mine too. I only gave her about 3 hours warning that they were coming over for dinner because I knew she would ask every 5 minutes when they would be here.  She planted herself downstairs for a good chunk of time wanting to go outside and wait for their arrival.  Somehow we managed to get through the wait, and the party began.

Gifts were exchanged, which was super fun, of course.

We have several new musical toys and instruments in the house now...

Abe and Maeve checking out musical twister...

Sofie and Josie checking out the musical instruments... to make sure they work, of course.

Dan and Sofie

I think Maeve's favorite gift, hands down, was nail polish.  She set up shop and proceeded to paint everyone's fingernails...

Annie showing off her beautiful nails..

Everyone was a good sport...

Maeve's spa had good business that night...

Maeve wanted to buy Dan some purple flowers... I think she was making sure he was taking good care of them, or something.  Ha.

We love our Seattle family.  Fun times had by all... so much fun that Maeve couldn't conk out for bed until 10:45pm that night.  Her 6am wake up call didn't go over well.  ;-)

Love and Loss...

I have found myself crying multiple times over the weekend due to the horrific events that happened in Connecticut on Friday.  I cannot fathom the sheer terror, grief, and pain that these 26 families are now enduring.  I find myself glued to the internet -- I'm a glutton for punishment, as it makes me cry every time.  There is enough sadness and loss in this world as it is -- gun violence is so senseless and needs to be stopped.

One thing is for sure.  I have kissed, squeezed, hugged, and told my sweet and sassy little girl all weekend long how much I love her... so much so, that she's rubbing my kisses off her cheeks now.  I don't care... I'm going to keep kissing them.

Gingerbread Neighborhood?

We had two gingerbread house making parties in two days...  Its a block party.

A Glimpse at a Ballerina...

Crafting...

Maeve mostly just wanted to paint the protective paper... but after some subtle persuasion, I managed to get her refocused and painting the intended ornaments...

Happily Reading...

Needless to say, Maeve is pretty stoked about the 12 days of Christmas tradition of getting a new book each day.  Really, each day is a little bit of Christmas starting with chocolate from her advent calendar, my mom sent her a computer advent calendar which is pretty exciting also, and now books.  Life is good.  She has no issues with ripping the paper off, discarding the book's outer cover (she refuses to keep them on), and request a book reading.  Her favorite book that she's opened thus far is Elena's Serenade....  Its a great book.  Oh, and The Pout Pout Fish is super funny, according to Maeve.  Any book where you get to help make sounds effects is pretty much a hit.

12 Days of Christmas - 2012

I stole this tradition from Carrie last year because I love it so much.  Maeve loves her books, and I love that she loves her books -- so, I want to keep stoking that fire.  These are the 12 Days of Christmas book selection this year.  She opened her first book tonight -- "The Pout-Pout Fish" and it was a major hit.  Bedtime stories until Christmas are going to be fun for both of us now.

Santa 2012

This sad day has arrived when I no longer have the screaming Santa photo.  I know.  Sick and wrong, but they make me laugh all the time.  I wasn't sure what this year would bring as Maeve was still timid about the idea of meeting the big guy in red, despite being very very excited about the idea of presents from Santa on Christmas morning.  I have to say, having elves mysteriously all around this month checking in on good behavior versus bad behavior has been very effective in redirecting a potential poor decision.  I'm going to be a little sad post Christmas, I think... what will I use as a threat then?

So, Maeve pulled it together in the end, had me tell Santa what she wanted, and bravely got up on his lap for photos.  The littles still gave us a show however, which was nice to see :-)

Maeve, Gerrit, Clara, Bennett, and Avery... all getting so big.

Oh, the 3's...

3 1/2 is breaking me...  ha.  Well, it did on Saturday, but happily, we're back to relative normal today.  Hallelujah.

On Saturday morning we met up with Maeve's preschool friend, Lumia, and her family to see the reindeer, and other Christmas fun.

This picture pretty much sums up how Maeve felt for most of the day...

Lumia managed to get a smile out of her...

We baked for most of the day on Saturday so we could deliver our treats to Maeve's friends today.  For those of you that live locally and received one of the cookie puzzles -- this is what its supposed to look like.  I have a feeling transport did a number on the icing decorations.  Oh well, it was worth a try ;-)

Downtown Festivities...

We decided to head downtown on Friday evening to participate and enjoy the holiday spirit the city had to offer that evening.  There were a couple of turns on the carousel, gingerbread 'houses' viewing, Starbucks treat for both of us, and a Figgy Pudding Street Caroling Competion to suss out.  We took the bus there and back, which is also a treat for Maeve.  All in all, a very fun and successful evening.

She had to scope out all the horses, and landed on a pink and purple one, of course.

Maeve was recently introduced to "Mary Poppins" and therefore wanted to sing, 'supercalifragilisticexpialidocious'...

Who's my sweet girl?

Starbucks hot chocolate in hand, waiting to hear live music...

The streets were closed for the caroling event... so fun.

The lights were so beautiful...

Wandering around checking out all the carolers... my shoulders were a bit sore by the end of the evening.  And, the umbrella stroller was a bad idea in the end...

Sleeping Ballerina

I do love it when I find Maeve wearing accessory items in her sleep, that weren't on her when I left her at bedtime... Tonight I showed her the hand-me-down ballet slippers her friend, Avery, passed along to her.  We tested them out when we got home to make sure they enhanced the skipping and twirling qualities that a dancer requires... they passed the test.

And, the world just got a little bit better...

Five days ago, Maeve was introduced to the world of chocolate advent calendars.  And, let me tell you, it is a major hit.  Gummy vitamins used to be the highlight of the morning routine, but they pale in comparison now.  But, there is a little bit of negative associated with this fantabulous morning treat... on our non work/school days, I always hope and dream of sleeping in (very very rarely does that happen) -- instead, Maeve is waking up earlier than normal just so she can open the next window of her advent calendar...  Classic.  But, if I'm being honest, I'm just sad that I don't have my own chocolate advent calendar ;-)

Getting Crafty...

Let's call a spade a spade... I'm not very crafty.  But, I can cut out press and seal circles and apply them on a window pane.  Viola... a snowman!  Maeve colored on the the missing parts, and we were suddenly more festive in our house...

Fancifying...

I should just go out and buy fancy pants some nail polish as she has taken to markers several times a day to achieve a similar effect...

Playdates and Treats...

So we invited a couple of Maeve's friends from her preschool over for a playdate, which was super fun.  And, the Christmas treat decorations began...  I do believe more of the treats ended up in Maeve's mouth than on the gingerbread man.  Understandable.

Ummmm...

Hilarious, I think.  So, Maeve had her first ballet class on Friday, and it was a big hit.  So much so, that she wore her leotards all day... she changed up her tights selection throughout the day however.

Family Day

Our "Family Day" fell on Thanksgiving this year, which was extra fun and appropriate... It is so hard to believe that 3 years have already past since Maeve and I became a family.  And, exactly 3 years ago today, Stacy and I arrived back home from Ethiopia with Maeve.  It goes without saying that I am beyond blessed and can't imagine life without Maeve...

I remember I couldn't stop looking at Maeve...

Sweet Maeve getting used to the temperature change ;-)
