First Hike...

Eric was in town so it seemed like the perfect excuse to dust off the hiking shoes and hit a local trail... And, my plan to place chunky monkey on Eric's back was foiled royally by a certain two year old. The wailing and snot that ensued when presented with this idea was impressive. Fine, fine. I had been saying that I've never been this out of shape, so carrying an extra 30+ pounds would only do me good. 3/4 the way into the hike I decided that Eric needed a turn being the pack horse... and more wailing, and snot was produced, plus thrashing... Ughh. So, I ended up lugging my perfectly happy and singing toddler up and down the trail. Oh well... I need to get used to this if I plan on replicating this day multiple times over this summer... But, I'm thinking a diet for both of us is in order :-)

Here we go...

We made it!

Lunch time.. with a slightly scowling Maeve who didn't want her photo to be taken...

Bonus -- we got to throw rocks into the water at the end of the hike..

Ryan & Maeve...

These two guys are smitten with each other... and I haven't really managed to get a good photo of the two of them together, ever. Anyway... On Sunday the kids played on the beach and yard, and had a great time. We love Ryan and I think there's a solid case for an arranged marriage here...

Yeah lady, you can show me all the crabs you want, but I ain't touching them...

There was some serious crab hunting going on...

Bubble wands!

WOW!!

Nah... holding on to the swing looks like too much work. If you could just hold me and swing me Jeff, that'd be great...

Check this out...

A serious game of baseball... where, I have to say, Ryan was even impressing me with his skills... I can't even begin to tell you how impressed Maeve was...

A lil' John Deere ride to solidify the relationship...

"Erica's" Visit...

... well, Eric actually... but, Maeve called him Erica all weekend long, and then I found myself calling the poor guy 'Erica' too at times. Sorry Eric. Anyway, Eric, my cousin, flew in from California for the weekend for a visit and a chance to meet Maeve for the first time (Another cousin, Ashley, was supposed to be doing the same thing, but an airline mishap prevented her visit... sad). It was so great to catch up with Eric and find a reason to be a tourist again in my own city. We were busy. We managed walks and playground fun, an EMP visit, a ferry ride to a local island to visit close friends and take in the scenery, dinner and a movie out with a different set of close friends, a hike, plus the requisite Pike Place Market tour and seafood dinner on the wharf. Phew...

Such a trooper with Maeve, as you can tell...

Watch out Seattle..

Who doesn't like a ferry ride?

Jeff and Carin graciously opened their home and fed us lunch...

Hiking (with everyone else in Seattle today... and I think I mean that literally)

A touristy holiday in Seattle is not complete until this fantastic place is visited

Thanks for a fun visit Eric!

Pocket Obsession...

Someone loves her pockets. She likes to point out who has pockets and who doesn't... And, if she's fortunate to have an outfit on with pockets, you'll find her sauntering around with her hands in them all day long...

Surprise...

...my brother, sister-in-law, and nieces surprised Maeve and I with a visit all the way from Winnipeg! Whaoo Hooo! It was so awesome. I have been giddy because they are moving back to Vancouver this summer after being away for 20 years, but didn't expect to see them before then. Gotta love the house hunting trip planned over a very important birthday weekend! It made this weekend perfect. Fuzzy, warm feelings on our end.

Here we all are waiting for Maeve to wake up from her nap... Todd, Stacy, Taryn, and Kate were joined by Sharon, Jodie, Larissa, and Erika this weekend (and of course, Gran was already here). So fun.

Clearly a cool Aunt -- taking the wee one swimming even (Maeve sporting her brand new birthday swim suit too...)

"Bubbles!"

Finding Kate's belly button... belly button's never get old.

A gaggle of tourists...

Enjoying the brief sunshine...

Kate and Maeve dancing...

Maeve's 2nd Birthday Party!

Maeve had her birthday party yesterday. It was so much fun! I was worried that rain would put a damper on the birthday plans, but fortunately the skies behaved. Yay. We pulled off a casual BBQ lunch with lots of our close family and friends... and aside from Maeve not exactly being thrilled at being the center of attention during her "Happy Birthday", I know she had a great time too.

"Mommy tells me its my Birthday Party. Alrighty... I can work with that..."

Coffee Talk...

It wasn't exactly warm... but it was dry :-)

Maeve spent a good portion of her time in the swing...

Hangin' with her cousin -- Taryn.

The kids all had fun -- playing baseball...

and playing ping pong...

Annie and Dan, who generously offered their place for the big event. Thanks!!

Maeve getting some Timothy lovin'...

A cake...

...and two cupcakes, as requested by the birthday girl.

Life is pretty good, I'd say...

We're so lucky to have so many great friends and family...

Did I mention, that we love our friends?! (Amy was really hoping that she'd have to miss out on the party however on the account of having a baby instead... sorry Amy!)

The cutting of the cake was definitely a highlight for the kids... obviously!

One happy little girl :-)

Gran's Here...

It's birthday week, so Maeve is happy to have Gran here spoiling her for a couple of days, for sure. They have been busy playing, reading stories, singing... you know, the stuff you do when Gran comes down.

Puzzle time... here is a bit of foreshadowing for the later part of this post...

Storytime. Gran and Pop gave Maeve some really great books for her birthday.

And, here is where "we" do craft time. My free labor brought her own tools and equipment to help me with this project (thank you Carrie for the idea!)

I took some tips from my supervisor, and carried them forward.

And, now we have some organized puzzles! I did manage to get behind the sewing machine wheel for the final bag... obviously, it was the best one ;-) Thanks Mom!!

Someone's big 2nd birthday party is tomorrow!! Whaoo Hooo!!
