Chelsea's Shower...

Chelsea flew into town this weekend because it was baby shower time!! Her mom's friends' hosted and we were thrilled to join the festivities and celebrate Chelsea (and Casey, of course). We cannot wait to meet the little boy due to grace our world in 2 1/2 months time... He is beyond loved already and Chelsea is going to be the best mom ever. Chelsea will always hold a special place in my heart as she was so instrumental in helping me come to my decision about adoption. And, once I finally got off the fence and started the process, she cheered every step of the way. So, in turn, I am so thrilled that she is about to embark into this life of parenthood -- a role that she's perfectly suited.

We're so happy for you Chelsea!

Girl's Weekend...

Ann and Kaya came down for the weekend, leaving behind the boys so that we could have "girl's weekend". It was perfectly chill, exactly what we were both looking for. There was ample playing during the day, and then when the kiddo's were snoozing, we had good conversation, wine, ice cream, trash magazines, and my first exposure to "The Jersey Shore". Wowza. I can't watch "The Bachelor" because that stresses me out -- imagine how the east coast crew made me feel!

Here are the weekend participants...

The girls were showing off their yoga moves...

Loungin'...

"Hey Kaya, what are you doing? Can I do that too???"

And, there was a lot of this too...

Thanks Ann and Kaya for enhancing our weekend!

Swiffing...

Maeve has embraced the "helping" concept. Perfect. I'll take anything I can get.... ha.

How About a Story...

So, I know you're eating, but I really need this story to be read to me right now..... Thanks Leann.

A Day in the Life...

It happened in slow motion. I saw exactly what was about to happen, but too late...

A little hand reaches up to the table with uncanny precision. In one perfectly executed maneuver, she grabs hold of the bowl full of hair beads...

I stop, pivot, and try to swing my momentum in the complete opposite direction... "Noooooooooooooo...."

And, just as the beads are being flung upwards and in every direction, I manage to finally grab hold of this gleeful 21 month old, who could not be belly laughing any harder. In fact, she even managed to grab a bunch of beads in her other hand and proceeded to throw them against the wall, so that she could watch them bounce. All the while, squealing with delight....

Good thing she likes to 'elp....

"Sorry"

Maeve's new favorite word. She's had more practice saying it recently because when a little behaviour modification has been required, we follow it up by a "sorry" and a hug and kiss. But, now she's just randomly saying "sorry" all the time. When she falls down - "sorry". When you accidentally bump her - "sorry". When she's just playing by herself - "sorry". When you're telling her that you are sorry for something - "sorry". I suppose its not a bad thing that she says it so often, as I have a feeling she's going to be using that word a lot in the future, but its hilarious (and a little sad) when she doesn't use it in the right context. But, on the other hand, I suppose I'm just making a good lil' Canadian out of her...

Dinner and Stories...

Jasen, Tanya, and Divia came over for storytime... I mean, dinner. The added bonus was that Maeve had them reading stories all night, which allowed me to sit back on the couch, with my feet up, and sip a glass of wine. Oh how nice.

Maeve and Divia played so well. Maeve practically mauled the poor girl all night with all her hugs and kisses. Thanks for coming to play Divia!

Hair...

I'm on a quest. A life long quest, I'm sure, to do Maeve's hair well. Before I even had Maeve I scoured the internet in search of the "answer" to African hair. Ha Ha Ha... I now know that the answer is a moving target. Nevertheless, I had the gist of what I needed to do, but never really had a routine, per se. That is changing. Its for the best all round because, although Maeve is not a big fan of doing her hair ever, our consistency is paying off. I have found some products that seem to be working well with Maeve's hair -- I am trying to find the balance of keeping her hair moisturized, without putting in too much product. I took Maeve into a salon, which was helpful as I could ask specific questions about care and products. I also found out that on one head, you can have several different types of hair throughout. That may explain the back of Maeve's head -- my nemesis to detangle and moisturize. I also introduced the satin hat for sleeping, and surprisingly, Maeve took to it right away. In fact, she asks for her 'sleep hat' before she goes to bed now.

I have embarked on some braids and beads... I need a little work on the style department, and my dexterity needs vast improvement, but some beads managed to make their way onto Maeve's head at the end of the day...

I hope Maeve will always think that her hair is beautiful... because it is.

Blin...

Blin came over for a play date... and we were so happy to see her, and her mom, Anne. Blin was adopted from Ethiopia also, and came home with her parents about 6 months before I brought Maeve home. Anne and I used to work together, so we were able to share in both of our excitements with referrals and travel. Blin is 2 1/2, so she and Maeve played well together (well, I am working on the "no" and "mine" comments on my end... but, I think we all came out of the visit unscathed. ha). It had been far too long since our last play date, but I think we're going to remedy that pattern and make it happen way more frequently since we all had so much fun.

Hitting it off right away...

There was even birthday cake to enjoy...

Lounging and book readings were enjoyed...

A big hug and kiss goodbye...

And, the absolutely stunning, Blin...

Rockin' the Playground...

There were a lot of inside activities over the last 24 hours... therefore, we needed to hit the neighborhood playground before bedtime tonight, just to run around and get some fresh air.

Yoga...

I recently found out that Maeve does yoga in her daycare class. That might explain the full locust pose (sort of...)

Stomping...

... frustrations away. Puddles are all around these days, and it seemed like a perfectly good idea to put on our rubber boots and get out and splash in them this afternoon. Maeve and I both survived today. I'm blaming the new molar that is popping through... All I know is that our morning started in the 4am hour. I wasn't happy about being up so early, but you'd think the culprit would've been in a better mood about it -- nope. And, on top of it, there was only a measly 1 hour nap during the day, which clearly was not enough. I think Maeve just wanted to see what it would be like to be 2 for a day. Umm. Awesome. I'm really looking forward to more days like these. Good thing I love her so much :-)

Let there always be puddles for us to stomp in then...

Look at her. She's got huge bags under her eyes and she can't even punch out a smile... but, she did enjoy playing in the puddles nevertheless...

Exerting her Independence...

Bennett's 2!

So, we HAD to go to his party and celebrate. Twist our arms. Birthday parties are fun and chaotic at this age. Toddlers in numbers can be a scary proposition. They are capable of much trouble, and you just hope its not your kid that leads the pack. Bennett's party was super fun and despite a day of very little sleep on Maeve's part, she managed to rally and keep it together... friends, balloons, and cake are all you need in life.

The Birthday Boy!

Maeve's trying to figure out why there's a rocking bear, and how a drill fits in this scene...

Dance par-tay...

A highlight of the evening -- cake!

How exactly can i shove the whole piece into my mouth, thinks Maeve...

Could Maya be cuter?

Bennett ready to conquer anything that comes his way...

Happy 2nd Birthday Bennett! We love you buddy.

My Valentine...

We sort of did a mini Valentine's Day celebration yesterday because today was a work/school day for both of us. We enjoyed waffles, wished Grandma and Grandpa a happy Valentine's, I opened the card that Maeve made me, and Maeve got a fun butterfly balloon for her special treat. This morning I let Maeve at her Valentine cookie that Leann made her -- I figured 6am was a better option than 8:15pm... go at it Maeve! I also figured I'd let daycare deal with her lil' sugar high...

The Naked Chef... Almost.

A Week of Family...

Last weekend we visited my mom's side of the family... this weekend, my dad and Lynn graced us with a visit. Oh yeah, and babysat for me while I worked yesterday. The perfect plan! It was short, but sweet... I'm pretty sure all had a good time, but I'm also pretty sure that Grandma and Grandpa are going to appreciate the fact that they don't have to roll out of bed so early to entertain the early bird tomorrow. Thanks Grandma and Grandpa!

From the moment they arrived, Maeve had them reading her stories...

Grandpa and Maeve playing on the playground...

Umm... I'd appreciate not being rushed into things, Grandpa... Ha

And, more stories right up until they left this morning...

Narcolepsy?

Being on holidays is exhausting...
