Playdate...

Isa B and her mom, Katie, came over this morning for a play date. There was much dancing and goofiness in our household this morning...

Here is a lil' dancing action that took place today -- it gives you a little glimpse of how Maeve ripped it up on the dance floor last night.

Melanie & James' Wedding!

Last night, Maeve and I went to witness and celebrate Melanie and James' wedding, along with all their family and friends. It was so much fun. The ceremony was beautiful, and the reception was fantastic. Love was in the air and Melanie and James just radiated. I love seeing that.

This was Maeve's first wedding, and I think its safe to say that she's a fan. She is undeniably a party animal. She was definitely in her element... There was a lot of strutting to the music, bopping of her head, and squeals of delight. She lasted longer on the dance floor than my screaming feet, and only succumbed to sleep when she couldn't hold out any longer. Congratulations Melanie and James... we are so happy for you both!

The ceremony was beautiful and in a great location...

The happy couple (the camera was a little late on the pick up)

Chris helping entertain the wee one...

"Mom, I love getting dressed up to go to a party!"

Could she be any happier?

Katie, Amy, and Amber...

Rosanne, Jenn, Avery, and Leann...

Toasts!

Seriously, how gorgeous are they?

"Come on Avery, I see cupcakes!"

Dance Party!! See Maeve in there having the best time? And, if you let her loose, she had some sweet moves going on... (along with Leann, it would appear)

Photo Booth Wedding! Awesome progression here...

Vegging Out...

It's raining outside (shocking). Its cozy inside. We've hunkered down and enjoyed a lazy morning. We've read at least 50 books, danced, made muffins, and have played with puzzles. Maeve's starting to figure out that there are names for colors and tries to tell me that most things are pink... here we are confirming blue, is in fact, blue. But, in the end, dumping all the pieces on the ground is the highlight of doing any puzzle... Fair enough.

We're gearing up for a big evening -- its Melanie and James' wedding day!! Whaoo Hooo

Potty Talk...

... a little someone asked to go potty and peed on the toilet twice today. We're far from being potty trained, but its something...

Watch Out...

swim lessons -- here we come. Maeve is a fan of the water and I love our weekly date in the pool (except for the part where I have to wear a bathing suit too). She kicks, splashes, blows bubbles, laughs when I dunk her under, and even sucks her thumb while floating on her back. But, it is pretty hilarious how she asks frequently throughout the pool session if we can go into the hot tub. I know Maeve, I know. Its my favorite part of the class too....

"Mine"

Yep. That one word was uttered for the first time yesterday and has picked up speed ever since...

Hair...

I love Maeve's hair. It is so thick and has the most beautiful curls. I am constantly trying to figure out how best to care for it, so I scour blogs and ask people all the time what their routine is (therefore feel free to share)... We have countless product bottles and I still haven't mastered a routine... but, I am trying. I want Maeve to love her hair like I love her hair. Tonight we spent a long time conditioning and detangling, and she's free of a style right now to give her head a break. I love how her curls make the perfect ringlets...

If you can look past the disgusting snotty nose, this photo cracks me up...

Ahhhh....

A step stool = containment. There was no little person running around with a dripping paint brush while I chased behind her. There were no dashes to the couch to make handprints by the little one today. The step stool was a happy little discovery. Its the little things in life, right? Now, let's see how long this slows her down in the future....

We're back....

Sorry mom. Sorry Grandma... It was a busy week. The mid-week portions were unexciting and boring -- work and daycare. We had to do three days in a row. That was rough on us. But, the weekend proved to be much more fun.

Yesterday a bunch of us went out to celebrate Melanie because she's getting married next weekend. Whaoo Hooo!!! So so fun. It was a great time and fun to have an evening out. The one resounding fact that became obvious to me last night was -- I am old! Ha. We were in an area of town that was just hopping and I realized that I can't roll with the young folk, or even pretend that I am close to their same age anymore. I am just thankful that I dyed my hair recently. I was so proud that I managed to rally past midnight at least. Unfortunately, Maeve didn't get the memo that we were sleeping in this morning and she decided wake-up time would occur in the 6 o'clock hour. Ouch. Love her.

The happy bride-to-be wearing her bachelorette get-up under duress. I'm pretty sure we can say she had a fun time last night nevertheless.

Dinner out was one of the scheduled activities...

Rosanne and Leann -- Rosanne has flown in from Ireland. We've missed her so much!

The bachelorette party...

This morning Rosanne and Brian invited us over for breakfast and we all got to meet Brennan for the first time. He is the sweetest little 4 month old ever!

Maeve decided she would relive her past and check out the baby play mat. She looked so big under there... she's growing up!

This was the fanciest pancake breakfast we've enjoyed. We all voted that our weekly pancake breakfast should take place at Brian's parent's place every week, regardless of Rosanne and Brian living in Ireland...

Maeve going to town..

Rosanne and Brennan. Such a sweet sight.

Gabriel...

Today we attended sweet Gabriel's memorial service. Gabriel entered and left this world on the same day. It is tragic and sad. I can't fathom how sad Christina, Scott, and Kelsey are to have had to say goodbye to their son and brother so soon. He was loved so much by his family.

Life is short and unpredictable. Maeve definitely received a few extra hugs, snuggles, and kisses throughout the day....

Tea Time...

...or should I say, water table activity time... We seemed to have missed the concept slightly, or we just had other ideas.

Maeve says "uh oh" a lot these days... which is often accompanied with a mischievous laugh :-)

MLK

Julie posted this youtube video on her blog. It made me cry -- as it should. Martin Luther King Jr's role in advancing the civil rights movement has affected millions of lives. My daughter is one of these lives MLK has impacted. This is a very different country now. There is still work to be done to eradicate racism, but MLK's dream is still alive.... and I hold that dream too.

If you can find 6 mins to watch this video, its worth it....

I've always thought celebrating MLK days was great. But, I've never gone and marched before, I'm embarrassed to say. MLK is very personal to me now. This day will be highly respected in our family always, therefore I switched work days so that Maeve and I could begin an annual tradition of marching. We joined Dan, Annie, Eli, and Abe for the march and had a fantastic day.

I'm so thankful that we live in a city that finds this day very significant also. Happy Martin Luther King day to everyone. Dream big.

Certificate of Citizenship...

... I finally have Maeve's in my hot little hands. It was the last hurdle of paperwork I needed to complete (and for some reason it took me a year to hunker down and fill out the documents). But, do you know what excites me the most? I can finally put Maeve on my Nexus pass. Yay!

Growing up :-(

I am knee deep in the book, Brain Rules for Baby, written by John Medina. It is fascinating. I am always intrigued by Maeve and how her little brain is developing, and how she goes about engaging in this world. I am consciously trying to provide the appropriate mold for her to thrive -- but its nice to get some concrete facts to help me sort out this thing called parenting. I think we're doing okay thus far... time will tell. Ha.

Maeve is taking off and doing all things toddler. There is definitely some two year old foreshadowing going on -- her mood swings are impressive at times. She knows what she wants and isn't afraid to speak her mind :-) So, when she asks for water and you begin to fill up her cup with water and then she starts freaking out at you because she, in fact, didn't want water... I should have known what she was thinking, right? Or when she adamantly asks for "Baby" to be played in the car and you oblige and play "Baby Beluga" aka "Baby", but apparently that's not the song she really wants to hear but keeps crying "Baby, Baby, Baby" at you anyway... and then I'm trying to reason with her that I am playing the song that she's asking for, and if she wants a different song, maybe she should tell me the name of that song... that equals a fun car ride home for both of us. Ha. Unfortunately, she still has a fascination with the toilet bowl, but her favorite new trick is grabbing the end of the toilet paper and then running out of the bathroom, all the while giggling. But, fortunately, she is still my sweet, sassy, full of beans little girl -- and I could just eat her up....

Yep...

... I'm documenting it.

Yay Maeve!!

Johnny Cash Influence...

Pax has one of the greatest imaginations... the zingers that come out of his mouth at the moment are awe-some. One thing he's passionate about is cowboys, which he has self-declared to being (he says "cowboy" with a drawl, of course). And, he loves his Johnny Cash. So, it should come as no surprise that when we started making a fort for the kids, it was not a fort, per Pax. Oh no -- it was Folsom Prison. Ha Ha. (This is when I queue said song from iTunes for ambiant effect). So, now Pax became a Sheriff and Maeve was declared to be a prisoner and headed straight to the slammer... And, I was given instructions to fortify the structure so that an escape could not be made by the wee one.

Folsom Prison

Uh oh Pax.. the capturer becomes the captured as well...
