Hair...

I love Maeve's hair. It is so thick and has the most beautiful curls. I am constantly trying to figure out how best to care for it, so I scour blogs and ask people all the time what their routine is (therefore feel free to share)... We have countless product bottles and I still haven't mastered a routine... but, I am trying. I want Maeve to love her hair like I love her hair. Tonight we spent a long time conditioning and detangling, and she's free of a style right now to give her head a break. I love how her curls make the perfect ringlets...

If you can look past the disgusting snotty nose, this photo cracks me up...

I've probably shared with you already, but here's our routine. Isa gets a bath about twice a week. In the bath I wet her hair, slather it VERY LIBERALLY with conditioner and comb through it all. A light rinse and that's it. Every morning I wet her hair with my hands and apply a small amount of conditioner, or some leave-in conditioner.
When she first came home I used Carol's Daughter products, which I loved but with the amount of hair she now has, I can't afford that. We use drug store brands like Infusium or the Pantene for Women of Color.
I'm getting ready to make a batch of shea butter and coconut oil hair "frosting" for Isa. If it works well, I'll make a batch for you guys.

I've got nuthin for ya. That head of hair is a completely different beast than the one I'm dealing with (and you know I say beast in the most flattering way of course!) Love those ringlets, those will be lots of fun!

But it's the snotty nose that I relate to so well.

Have you been to this website before?

My daughters hair is much tighter and kinkier than Maeve's hair. But, she gets a bath every other day. We only shampoo her hair once a week. We condition it probably twice a week. If you don't own the Tangle Teezer, you need to buy one today! But when her hair is wet I put Garnier Fructis sleek in shine Leave in Conditioner. Then we put in Aveda's Beautifing oil. Then Carol's Daughter Hair Milk. I braid it and she wears it braided for a day then I unbraid it and leave it for a day or two (sometimes three). If the curls aren't holding up then I put in some more Carol's Daughter for the day.

Thank you all... Its all very helpful. Even if all you have to offer is empathy with the snotty noses. :-)

Mauve's hair is a lot like my R's hair. We use Curls products (curls.biz) on her. The shampoo and conditioner, the detangler, the hair milkshake, and the curl jealousy. I started using it when she was 9 months old and have never looked back. It really keeps her hair looking beautiful. For my other daughter, we use the curls shampoo and conditioner, but we use qhemet biologics detangling ghee and burdock root buttercream instead of the curls products. I've tried it on R, and it is too heavy for everyday-type use, but the burdock root makes a great deep conditioner to use for co-wash days only. I do rinse it out, though.
