Christmas 2010 in Review...

Well... we made it to Winnipeg without any repeat episode of last year. Huge kuddos to Amber for picking Maeve and I up at 3:45am and taking us to the airport for our 5:45am flight. BFF status right there (and again this morning for accepting Maeve on her doorstep at 6:30am so I could drag myself to work... this was status post her own new years celebrations last night).

Our time in Winnipeg was totally relaxed and fun. We hung out, played games, completed puzzles, 'danced danced revolutioned', watched movies, went to a movie, went swimming, went tubing, overate, baked pumpkin pie, played in the snow (it may not have been long, however), and Maeve took her first "glide" on her new ice skates. Maeve loved being in the thick of it. Her favorite phrase was "all done" and she spent a lot of her time looking for "Meow" the cat, splashing her foot in "Meow's" water bowl, and racing to play in a toilet bowl that had inadvertently been left exposed. The weather was even somewhat balmy... meaning, it was below freezing, but not close to the minus 20's and 30's that we experienced last Christmas. So, aside from Maeve's horrible sleeping, it was perfect.

Maeve at one point nearly gave her Uncle Todd a coronary... their family gift (Todd's gift) was a brand new flat screen TV. Sweet deal. So Todd and I go downstairs to surprise the girls and set it up... of course Maeve needs to "help" too. First off... she nearly crumples the box that my anal brother wants to save. Fine, no problem. Then, Todd and I are sorting out wires or something and have our backs turned for a moment... when we do happen to look back at the new TV that is laying face down on the floor, we happen to also notice that Maeve is standing right on top of Todd's new baby. He gasps and proceeds to lift off the now giggling child from his prized possession. Oh, and then once we have the TV all set up and we're just peeling off the plastic wrap from the edges, Maeve decides now is a good time to turn the knife in my brother's chest and use one of her crazy fort sticks and "drums" on the TV screen... I think all the color rushed out of my brother's face at this point. Seriously, the girl is hard to keep up with now... Mischief is starting to become her middle name. But, it was sort of funny to watch my brother sputter and gasp a bit. I mean, no... no it wasn't at all :-)

Cousin shot! Maeve was eager to get out in the snow, but realized that she couldn't walk very well in the deep stuff and her oversized snowsuit was a bit limiting in the mobility front.

Auntie Stacy and Maeve chatting it up...

Puzzle time with Papa...

The homemade neighborhood ice rink just out back of the house...

Christmas Eve...

Kate helping Maeve read her new Christmas book. Maeve was also sporting her new Christmas jammies...

Santa had made an appearance overnight and left all sorts of neat things...

Christmas is great!

Definitely a white Christmas...

The girls finding out that they are going to Phoenix in February to visit Gran and Pop and all the other Beyers crew (bonus... its the same time Maeve and I will be there too!)

Maeve loved unwrapping her presents... she tore off the tiniest pieces one at a time...

Maeve received "Crazy Forts" as a gift... Taryn was an architect and made some sweet forts for Maeve all week. Sorry Maeve... thus far all I have accomplished is the basic square fort.

Kate and Maeve chillin' in their new pad...

Wearing her tutu while walking her caterpillar...

Skippy... aka "Meow"... Maeve's quest all week long was to find Meow. Meow wasn't as keen on the plan as Maeve was...

All the cousins love to read...

Kate brought home the class pet for the school holidays -- Coco. That's right Maeve... its a rodent and you'd best not be begging for one of those to live in our house.

Cousin shot -- Kate, Maeve, and Taryn

"But I don't want to go tubing..."

Followed by a dramatic crumple forward in the tube...

"Oh wait... this is actually kind of fun after all..."

We checked out Winnipeg's brand new tube park...

Wheee! Uncle Todd and Maeve cruising down the track...

Cat naps are required on holidays...

Should I offer to help Uncle Todd shovel off the ice rink? Nah. Its fun to watch him work a little...

Breaking in her brand new, hot pink, skates... Not really the biggest fan. It was cold. A mitt wouldn't stay on. And, her Mom and Uncle kept pushing her all around on this slippery surface...

Willing to pose for a moment because I promised Maeve we were all done and heading back inside... She really fits seamlessly into our family -- we really don't like to be cold...

I love my Uncle!

And, I love my Auntie!

Maeve and I scored lounge passes on the way home from my brother's very sweet friend. So, in VIP form, Maeve proceeds to raspberry the glass window. Ummm... sorry executive lounge people.
