Fundango 2010

Remember this post? I do... I couldn't wait for Maeve to join in on the madness. This year she was right in the thick of it all. We had Fundango at Ann and Mike's beautiful new home this year -- they graciously opened their doors and allowed all the chaos inside... and it was really really fun. Exhausting, it turns out... but super fun. There were 10 kids between the ages of 2 months and 5 years old. I managed to take some pictures, but it would appear that there are very few of the adult Fundagoers, and mostly all the kiddo's. Such is life. Here is a glimpse.

Fiona and Maeve, partners in crime. I spent a good part of my time on these stairs with Maeve. Oh how fun it is to go up.. and then go down... and go up again... and then go down again...

New Wheels...

Anna so kindly lent us her trike and so we decided to take it out for a spin this afternoon. We overcame a few obstacles like, umm, putting our helmet on, and holding onto the handlebars with both hands (Maeve's preferred method is to hold on with one hand and suck her thumb with the other -- apparently learning a new skill is slightly stressful and she was very annoyed with her Mommy for reminding her that two hands were required)... but, once we got the hang of it, fun was had by all.

Stats...

Maeve is 15 months old exactly and had her check up today. Here are the latest numbers.. no shocking news here:

Weight: 25 lbs (75th percentile)
Length 31 inches: (75th percentile)
Head Circumference: 49 cm (97th percentile... its more, they're just being nice) read: super smart.

And, after the wiggly worm was all checked out, her visit was concluded with three well earned bandaids on her thighs. Sorry honey bunny.

So, what did we do after her appointment? Well, we went out for lunch of course. Because, I guess I'm trying to teach Maeve from an early age to cope with food?

Belly Laughing...

Lessons Learned...

After you give your toddler liberty to her diaper stack under the changing table, which is within close proximity to the laundry closet, one should really check the load of laundry more closely before putting it in the washer... diaper gel can only absorb so much before it explodes into a million little pieces, apparently. Awesome.

Park Time...

It finally cleared up and we enjoyed a little park time today with friends -- Anna (and Peter).

Training...

Rain or shine... we're in this training together. The half marathon is less than a month and a half away... oh geez. Here is my coerced cheerleader...

Super Hero vs Ballerina

It would appear that Maeve has an aversion to tutu's... I decided to pull out one that she had received as a gift last year to see what she'd think about it. When I put it on her she immediately signed "all done" and wanted it off... later in the day I happened to be video taping her, and caught this reaction when she saw it again... hilarious.

So, don't worry... I'm not going to make the girl wear a tutu if she doesn't want to and I'll refrain from making such stereotypical comments, as I did. It really does bode well that Maeve is opposed to it actually, because I would prefer as little princess paraphernalia as possible in our house. So, instead of girly ballerina play, Maeve decided to become a super hero instead, and donned her bib as a cape.

(ps -- we do occasionally wear bottoms when we're at home... but, well, this is a very common look a lot of the time too. Its good to be au natural)

An education day for me equaled a playdate with Avery and Amber. Its too bad Maeve was so sad about it...

Choices...

Last night Maeve and I had a slumber party in the downstairs bedroom due to the lil' heat wave we're currently experiencing... Pat me on the back, it was the perfect plan. Its nice and cool down there and we'd both get a solid night sleep. Ummm... what I didn't plan on was Maeve turning into an 80 year old lady while she slept. How can such a lil' thing make so much noise? The snoring was impressive and managed to keep me awake for a good portion of the night. And then, if that wasn't bad enough, she started to squeak in her sleep, and then she was talking in her sleep... really?? I'm thinking the warm bedroom upstairs isn't such a bad idea tonight...

More Birthday's...

It was definitely birthday weekend as we celebrated 5 different birthdays, in one form or another... So, collectively happy birthday to Anna and Anna, Isa B, Kristen, and Casey... Phew.

Today were Anna and Kristen's birthday parties. But, because its all about the kids apparently, Anna's was the only one I took photos of. So sorry Kristen! I have entered into a whole new world... kid birthday parties. Pretty darn fun. It was a hot one today and we all met at the park for Anna's 4th birthday party. There was a playground, there were games, there was lunch, and of course, there were cupcakes. Pretty great. Then, once Anna's birthday party concluded, the boys took all the kids and, we girls, went out for lunch to celebrate Kristen. I'd say it was happy birthday to all of us because we were able to enjoy a great lunch with just the ladies sans kids.

Maeve enjoying her lunch treats...

And, thank you boys. Seriously... I feel so thankful that my guy friends get it. They totally offered to look after Maeve so that I could enjoy lunch with the girls, and they are purposefully trying to build a relationship with Maeve. She needs strong male role models in her life, and I couldn't be more thankful. So, while we were enjoying our leisurely lunch, Lance, Mark, and David took care of 8 kids, all under the age of 5, without batting an eye...

1st Tractor Ride...

It was Casey's birthday party... out in the country. And country equals tractor rides... Maeve was very brave and endured the tour with a concerned look on her face -- and there may have been a lot of thumb sucking, but no tears. She broke into a huge smile when Jacob killed the engine... she's not a big noise fan. But, now we can check another thing off the list of first experiences.

Out on the Town...

Tonight Maeve and I caught up with our friends, Katie and Isa B, over Ethiopian food. We met these two through blog world, and I'm so glad we did. Katie is a single mom to a precious 3 year old -- Isa B, and they live in the same town as me. My sister-in-law, Stacy, and I met both of them right before we flew to Ethiopia to pick up Maeve. Its nice to have a new friend that is living a very similar life as me and also has two years of experience on me. It would appear that Maeve is following suit and has a personality close to Isa B's -- that makes me happy, as Isa B is a very very sweet little girl.
