Today was a double header. It was Maeve's daycare's annual picnic and pre-school graduation, and BBQ night at Dan and Annie's. Summer still needs a good kick in the pants, but this afternoon ended up being sunny and fairly warm. We'll take what we can get at this point.
Maeve picking "flowers" during the graduation ceremony.
Proud parents everywhere. I'm aware that before I know it, Maeve will be up there too... time moves quickly as my baby is already showing signs of less baby and more toddler...
And, the rivalry continues... an unabashed covering up of Maeve's "Canada" hoodie. It just means that Dan knows how fantastic and great Canada is, and wishes he could be a part of that... Pretty sure anyway.

I think Maeve had an 'ah ha' moment today. She finally figured out some signs... She has been doing the milk sign for about a month or so now... but, it was fairly arbitrary when she choose to sign it, or only signed it when she was actually drinking milk. But, today she sorted out "more" and "eat" and now uses "milk" in context. Its hysterical to watch as she vigorously signs everything now... and you can see her excitement in being able to communicate these all important needs of hers. We're still working on the "please" and "thank you", but of course she's figured out the signs that revolve around food :-)

Someone is crawling... I mean, not just the army crawl, but the real deal. It still isn't happening all the time yet, but she does it a lot now. She has definitely discovered the joy of exploration and is all over the place now. Gone are the days of just plopping her down and finding her in the same spot. But, it is sure fun to see her in action...
It feels so long ago that some of these pictures were taken... but, I guess that just means the weekend was packed.
We've started a Friday morning breakfast tradition. The host rotates but the breakfast menu remains the same -- pancakes. We've invited others, without kids, to this new tradition, but it would appear that the early hour is a deterrent to those that can sleep in... that's weird.
Then, it was off to Bellingham again to visit the latest Fisher and his parents and brother... (and they happen to live across the street from a park, so there was no hiding the swing set)
We headed up to Canada again and stayed with Dirk, Jodie, Larissa, and Erika. During our visit I played with Ann and Mike, and we had a visit with Gran and Pop too. The whole house was up early on Sunday morning to watch the Germany vs. England game...(Dirk's family is German... so there were some happy campers on Sunday morning). Maeve thought eating breakfast with the TV on and loud commentating on the side was pretty entertaining...
Sunday afternoon found us in North Van to catch up with a bunch of my old high school girlfriends. Every year we try and catch up and see what we've all been up to... Next year it will be our 20 year reunion. How did that happen??

...is the culprit. Maeve has an ear infection.... at least there are drugs to treat it. Fingers crossed that the amoxicillin is working extra fast and we don't have a repeat of last night. No one should be awake in the middle of the night... so I asked Maeve to sleep through the night tonight. I'm pretty sure she heard me... but, did she listen? Time will tell :-)

On Tuesday, May 11th at 9:00am, Maeve was officially readopted in the presence of many friends... Misha captured some shots of the events (thank you Misha), and I just received the photos. Here are some of them...
We're almost done with the stack of paperwork... almost.
Apparently, while I worked on Saturday, Maeve walked... with assistance. Here is a reenactment of what went down (And, Maeve... I apologize for all the belly shots. I will move these jammies into the "I have outgrown these clothes despite the fact they are 6 months older than my age already, pile". But, no judgment, baby...):
Okay... I suppose you could say that is walking. ha. I was told that she was more focused and determined on Saturday. Below is the virtual deal for your enjoyment...
So, how great is my Dad? He comes down for the weekend to watch Maeve (although, I'm pretty sure that wasn't a tough decision), he and Lynn take me out for dinner, and while I was working, he cleaned my deck for me... umm, Happy Father's Day Dad!?! I did make a pecan pie for you, although, I guess I did eat more than half of it... but, its the spirit of the gesture right? I love you Dad... and thanks for loving me and Maeve the way you do.
Dad hard at work...
Maeve's been down with another cold. I've been tired. But, we're back now... Maeve and I enjoyed a weekend with Grandma and Grandpa, who came down to watch Maeve on Saturday while I slaved away at work... ha. It was nice for Maeve to be doted on in her home while she was slightly under the weather... She perked up every now and then, so a swing was in order...
Grandpa can push the swing like no other... says Maeve.

Fire alarms... great when there's a fire. Not so great when the problem is a malfunctioning alarm, and not an actual fire.
6am... wailing... constant, ear piercing wailing... Jump out of bed. Check all the rooms. No fire. Now what? omg... seriously... make it stop. Maeve is sleeping through it. Thank goodness, she's sleeping through it. How can she sleep through it? Does she have hearing problems? Okay, good. She's awake. She can hear. Now she's crying. I wish she was sleeping through it.
Call your friends, knowing they can't help, but at least they'll know you're in misery. Can't find the manual for the fire system. Pull down one of the alarms. Take out the battery. Damn, its wired in. Still wailing. I'm deaf now. I don't know? Do you call the non-emergency police number? Yes, you do -- and they patch you through to the fire station -- they send out some fire fighters responding to a 911 call (I didn't call 911! oh hell...) But, yay, I have fire fighters in my house. Of course. I look like crap, Maeve has yellow snot oozing from her nose that she's smearing all over her face, and my house is mess. I don't think I'm making the impression I want... oh wait. Right. Fire alarm. Please make the noise stop. They tell me that I need the secret code to punch in the alarm box. I don't have it hooked up to an alarm system gentlemen... but, apparently there is a secret code. They can't help me. Thanks anyway. Then my neighbor comes over and tries to help... and, still the alarms wail. Give in to the noise. Make blueberry pancakes and eat breakfast.
Eventually, Tom, the builder, shows up with his ladder. Love the vaulted ceilings until you need to access them. We managed to deactivate all the alarm boxes -- the culprit that activated all alarms in the house was in my room. 3 hours of wailing and finally there is silence. Oh, how I love the sound of silence... reminds me of a song.
On a positive note... we changed all the batteries in the alarms so I don't have to do that for another year...

...aka, Brent's Birthday Weekend. Thanks Brent for a having a birthday because this weekend was so fun and the weather was perfect. I suppose you could call it pseudo camping... it is fairly rustic -- therefore, we'll say it Maeve's first introduction to "camping". Amy and Brent invited all of us to their cabin in Leavenworth to hang and do whatever we wanted over the perfectly warm and sunny weekend. Here is a glimpse of some of the fun:
If you looked for Maeve this weekend you'd find her like this -- with a handful of stones and twigs that she'd quickly shove in her mouth before someone made her spit out the stones at least. It would seem that she loves the outdoors...
Avery and Maeve chillin' (if you zoom in you see that Maeve has twigs hanging out of her mouth.. ha. The ruffage is good for you right?)
There seems to be a slight weight and size descrepancy between Maeve and Maya, who are only one day apart in age... Hey, when you love to eat, you love to eat. And, on that note, Maeve is about to shove yet another stone in her mouth...
