"Mama"

She can say it. She says it quite frequently while she's babbling now... but, do you think she'll say it back to me when I ask her? Cheeky lil' thing...

Maeve's Birthday Party...

I apologize for my lack of posts rounding out Maeve's birthday week, but I got hit with a case of Strep Throat. Wow... not so much fun. So, thank you, Z-Pack... you are now my most favorite thing ever. So, now I'm back in the game. On Friday, my mom and Elin found their way into town with the expectation to care for Maeve on Saturday while I worked, but instead they had two of us at home that needed some TLC... ha. Thank you!

Today was Maeve's 1st birthday party. It was super fun to have friends join us to celebrate Maeve and eat lots of food and cupcakes. What more do you need? And, as a result, this concludes your birthday week, Maeve.... no worries, I'm sure we can find another reason to par-tay soon. :-)

Maeve being doted on, as always...

Numbers...

Umm... Happy Birthday Maeve? Here are some immunization shots as a present... Sorry babe.

Here are her latest stats:

Weight: 22 lbs 15 oz (75th percentile)
Length: 29.5 inches (75th percentile)
Head: 48.5 centimeters (97th percentile)

Between her big head (a lot of smarts) and all that hair, hats may be sparse this summer...

PS -- don't tell Maeve that we celebrated her birthday tonight while she was sleeping. Thanks Amber for the sweet treats.. and thanks Maeve for having a birthday.

Happy 1st Birthday!

You wore your party dress to school, people sung 'Happy Birthday' to you throughout the day, our email and voicemail are full of Birthday greetings and songs sung to you, the Wilson gang snatched you early from daycare, spoiled you rotten again, and took you out for dinner -- and got you another birthday cake... and, they waited until I got there for the 'Happy Birthday' song and the blowing out of the candle portion. Smile.

Maeve... this birthday week is going to be hard to beat, but you deserve all the love and fun that is poured out on you. You make the world a better place and I'm thrilled to be at the receiving end of your love. Happy Birthday, baby girl.... I can't wait to see what this next year has in store for you, and us.

Here Maeve is clapping after we all sang a beautiful rendition of "Happy Birthday" to her...

And...

...the birthday treats continue, because its birthday week, right? Maeve hadn't really been introduced to sweets until this week. Oh well... Its your 1st birthday only once. Here is Maeve tasting her first cupcake...

Do you think she liked it?

Birthday Celebrations...

Its the day before the official date, but seeing as I'm working tomorrow, I decided that today we would celebrate a little... And, besides, due to the time difference, it is actually Maeve's birthday in Ethiopia right now anyway.

We are lucky to have Jodie, Larissa, Erika, and Lindsey down for a visit right now, so they helped enhance the celebrations. We drug those teenagers out of bed way earlier than they wanted (thank you Maeve... ha) and we went out for a birthday breakfast complete with pancakes and blueberries... Today was fairly low key, but definitely enjoyable.

We wandered down to the local Farmer's Market...

Maeve completely in her element -- everyone praising and doting on her every move...

Balloons are so fun, so you definitely need one for your 1st birthday, right?

6 months...

A friend recently asked me if I felt like Maeve and I have been together for 6 months. It does, and it feels like we've been a pair for longer, actually. When I think back to November when I finally held Maeve for the first time, I am reminded of the basal anxiousness I felt during our first few months together; I wondered if Maeve felt like our transition was going as well as I thought and hoped it was. We have come a long way -- and I am so thankful that Maeve did very very well in the scheme of transition and bonding issues. She was so scared at the beginning and the photos I have of her reflect that in her eyes. Now her eyes shine. I still adhere to bonding and attaching philosophies, but now we mostly deal in normal 12 month old stuff, which is a ton of fun. She lights up my world.

So, onto birthday week. What did day two hold for us? There was a playdate this morning with Anna and Peter (thank you Steph) while I huffed and puffed on my bike for a few hours (the STP is gonna hurt this year... but, that's another post), there was some swinging (of course), and there was a visit with our zoo animal friends.

One happy camper...

Here we are checking out the Hippo's. This is what Maeve wore to the zoo...

And, this is what Maeve wore home from the zoo. Someone got so excited about seeing her animal friends that she peed her pants. Oh well, it happens to the best of us. A diaper and pumas are all you need to make a statement anyway.

Maeve and I both appreciate the latest Vanity Fair issue...

Birthday Week...

...has commenced.

The banner is hung, purposeful activities have been planned, and the menu has been selected for this little food connoisseur. This is a big week because tomorrow marks the 6 month anniversary from when I first held Maeve, her actual birthday is on Monday, and her party is next Sunday. Hence, "Birthday Week".

Today included blueberry pancakes and watermelon -- a couple of Maeve's favorite foods, a visit by Nanny Annie, and some serious swing time at the park. And, if that weren't fun enough -- the evening proved to be even better. We were treated by the Wilson gang (sans Eli) for an Ethiopian dinner to celebrate Maeve's 1st birthday. Oh my... Maeve was sooooo happy to be the center of attention. She was giddy with excitement and couldn't stop smiling and laughing throughout the whole dinner. Life is good. And then, the fun continued onto the ice cream parlor where Maeve enjoyed her very first taste of vanilla ice cream. It was a hit.

I'd say it was a good start to the week... Happy Birthday Week, Maeve!

Our Village...

Maeve is under the weather again... despite its valiant effort to keep bugs at bay, daycare, in of itself, is a bit of a petri dish -- Maeve always seems to have a residual cold. It is what it is and she's building her immune system -- let's just see the positives here.

This morning, Maeve was a bit more snotty gross than normal (you know what i mean...), which meant no admittance to daycare for her. What do you do when its technically too late to call in sick? You call one of many friends that you know will take Maeve in a pinch so that you can show up at work until the on-call person arrives. This morning I handed off Maeve to Annie, and she handed me a Starbuck's latte. Ummm.. pretty dreamy.

I have to say... when I call for help, people always rally. I feel so blessed that I have so many friends that are willing to help me with Maeve, and purposefully love and support her. It really is humbling and I couldn't be more thankful.

Hooray...

... for our little friends and summer weather. We traveled north again today to the 'ham to celebrate our lil' friend, Fiona. It was her day as she was baptized this morning and she turned one this week; a party was in order. And, a party we attended...

Fiona...

Maeve was on board with the plan, so she put on her party dress...

The perfect day for a backyard party...

Yeah, I covet Mark and Misha's house...

If you look closely, you'll notice that Zane has cupcake icing all over his face...

So, Maeve isn't making eye contact with Zane here, instead she's trying to figure out how she can get the icing off of Zane's face.

And here, Anna is holding up her cupcake so that sneaky Maeve won't get at it... Smart Anna... ha.

How many little bod's can fit in a kiddy pool?

... A lot.

Taste Evolution...

Its a well known fact that Maeve loves to eat sand. Well, she has moved onto bigger and better things, apparently. Rocks, and sometimes sticks.

Trying to sneak in her latest snack...

And, her look to me when I suggested maybe she not eat the sidewalk.

Easy...

Roomie weekend was great. Finny and Cj are the type of friends that are easy to be with and, therefore, it was totally relaxing and fun. I love the friends that you can just pick up where you left off, despite missing a chapter or two in the interim.

Rehydrating...

Summer weather has hit. Yay. So, Cj and I enjoyed our iced lattes and told Maeve that she was drinking one too...

Cj teaching Maeve how to drink from a straw. It is roomie weekend and Finny arrived last night... We have all the players in place now.
