Bathtime Fun

Adding a little drool to the mix...

Its getting long... she's sorta sporting the mullet look when her hair is all wet. Retro Maeve is in the house...

Taking good care of her two bottom teeth.. (and yes, I know, she's outgrown her jammies... and she may have trouble getting those thighs out of the bumbo from time to time, but we're just not making a big issue out of it. ha.)

Under the Weather...

Maeve woke up a little under the weather -- her latest daycare cold got her. No big deal, except it sort of was... wowza... I was introduced to a new Maeve this morning -- irrational Maeve. I saw a little temper tantrum foreshadowing... so, I'm really looking forward to that phase now. All was well when we finally got ourselves good and comfy in the ergo for a large chunk of the day and by this afternoon, baseline Maeve was back. Thank goodness... I missed her.

Captured...

...in no more than 30 seconds.

Its really too bad that Maeve isn't more expressive...

So Long Weekend...

Maeve and I were treated with a visit from my mom, aka Gran, and our family friend, Elin. Maeve was doted on and every move she made was accompanied by cheers and song. Maeve and I were both treated to homemade cooking and more meals now await us in the freezer... Thank you Gran and Elin!

This picture speaks volumes....

Maeve managed to catch up with a few of her good buddies throughout the weekend -- Elizabeth, Avery, and Ryan. This is how she looks when she's playing with her friends. She's not social at all...

Ryan is a little smitten by Maeve and was trying to show her his sweet moves... Maeve was playing hard to get... Thank you Jeff and Carin for, yet another awesome BBQ...

And, the best excuse to sign up for a run, ever... Amy and I participated in the Doughnut Dash on Sunday.... and there were plenty of doughnuts waiting for us at the finish line :-)

Wow..

She's not even officially crawling or walking yet... its gonna get worse, isn't it?!

11 Months (plus a day)

Crazy business... Maeve is now 11 months old. She is becoming increasingly known as "Sassy Pants" because she is such a ham and now wants her opinions to be noted frequently.... sometimes with a higher decibel than necessary, per me. Ha.

What can Maeve do these days? She has gotten the concept of a joke and will do things to solicit a laugh from me, and then laugh herself. Its pretty funny. She mimics my facial expressions and we have "conversations" all the time... but, she still taunts me with the "da da" thing... whatev. She is definitely more and more mobile and is soooo close to crawling, and will even stand for a while if she's tricked into it. I know I know, I do enjoy the relatively stationary phase that Maeve is still in, but seriously, chunky monkey is getting heavier and heavier, and it would be nice if she'd pull a little of her own weight around here :-)

She is so fun and I absolutely love every moment with her...

In Case You Didn't Know...

Someone was being particularly cute today...

That is all.

Sniff.. Sniff... The Weekend is Over...

What a great weekend. It was packed full of all things a weekend should be -- laziness, leisure, recreation, decadence, pampering, and a whole lot of fun with friends. I am not ready to enter the real world again tomorrow... I kind of like the weekend world.

Saturday night Maeve and I had dinner at Amy's -- Bennett and Maeve ended their evening by splashing around in the tub together...

Amy, Kolleen, and I participated in the Daffodil Classic this morning. I decided to go cold turkey and dust off the roadbike for the 40 mile ride. It was so beautiful and sunny today -- I'll have to remember that when I complain about being old and stiff tomorrow...

This afternoon Maeve and I went to a local potluck for families that have, or are, in the process of adopting kids from Ethiopia... It is really great to participate in this community of families and begin getting to know more people.

Sweet Maeve enjoying the party. I did discover that potlucks or buffets may not be the place I should take this 'healthy eater'... she was extremely frustrated that she wasn't able to eat all the food that was offered on the tables. Clearly, I never feed the poor girl...

And, to wrap it all up -- it is officially BBQ season!! I love BBQ season! Amy and Brent hosted the first cookout tonight...

Stuck...

You know, being a baby is really difficult... especially when you can only roll and scoot backwards... and my mom seems to think its funny when I get myself stuck and trapped in corners. How rude, right? A little help here, please.

Eerily...

...reminiscent of my college days. Why file early when there is a specified deadline?

Oh hell... why do I do these things to myself? But, after a ridiculously busy and exhausting week at work, I managed to plug in the last number and hit "file" to the IRS just now. Yay me. Pour one more glass of wine to celebrate. And, what did Maeve have to say about all of this?

Well... perhaps she was flipping with joy in her sleep...

Ma Ma... a lost cause.

See how she taunts me... and so adamantly too :-)

Cuteness and Friends...

We love our weekends. Sassy Pants and I decided to get out a little bit and check out what was going on... We hooked up with some of our friends during our exploration...

Getting stronger every day... now we can kneel unassisted.

Taking a stroll through the zoo grounds...

Picnic at the zoo with Avery and Bennett (and Amy)...

Advanced reading skills...

Taking a rest on her foot...

Sassy Pants and Diva Avery on the swings...

Seriously, how much fun is this?!

Its bright out here you know...

Also... a big happy birthday to my Grandma who turned 89 today and my bro-in-law, Andrew, who is just plain old :-)

Sassy Pants...

Maeve's personality is taking off. She is funny. She is social. She is expressive. She is determined (sometimes). And, she is sassy. I love the combination. She has also discovered that she is able to have an opinion about things. What?! No... My 'go-with-the-flow', 'take anything that comes my way' child is questioning my agenda at times. How could she not know that its all about me? Ha. No really.

I think I witnessed her first temper tantrum yesterday... or at least one maneuver anyway. Not my fault that she choose to wake up at 4:30am... therefore, clearly not my fault that she was cranky because she was still tired (we are not morning people). When I placed her on the floor with some toys at 5:15am so that I could shower and get ready for work, she definitely threw her arms and head down and said a few choice words at me in baby talk, I'm pretty sure. Sorry honey bunny!

As challenging as some of the developmental stages she will enter throughout her childhood will likely be, I totally love that she's engaged in this thing called life. She is becoming her own person, with her own thoughts, and feelings. She is such a sweet sweet little girl and I love that we make each other laugh all the time.

Getting Close...

Someone is thinking about crawling. Maeve wants everyone to know that its a lot of work... she's not totally convinced its totally worth her effort yet, but she'll strongly consider it... for the time being, anyway.

(Transitioning to swing that leg out of there is tricky... sometimes you take headers. You hope for soft landings when that happens!)

Family...

Thank you Todd, Stacy, Taryn, and Kate for loving the newest member of the family like you do... Winnipeg was great.

Serious Debate...

Auntie Stacy and Maeve went at it...

But, they ended on good terms after all was said and done... phew.

Easter...

Another first holiday for Maeve, and she likes holidays. We are out in Winnipeg enjoying the long weekend thanks to Todd, Stacy, Taryn, and Kate, who needed a Maeve fix and flew us out for a visit. How sweet and generous are they?! And, how fun. Maeve did great on the plane and we are totally enjoying the Spring weather Winnipeg is currently experiencing.

I was slightly concerned that Auntie Stacy would try and steal Maeve at some point during this trip, but she has behaved herself fairly well... mostly. I mean, there was a slight slip of the tongue when Maeve was asked who made her such a great breakfast and she answered for Maeve -- "Mama, I mean, Auntie Stacy." I'm sure she meant nothing by that, right?

It has been totally fun and relaxing. We have been hanging out a lot and Maeve is having a fantastic time playing with her Aunt, Uncle and cousins. We had a full-on turkey dinner to celebrate Easter. I am of the opinion -- the more turkey dinners you can fit into a year, the better. And I think Maeve has jumped on that bandwagon as she feasted alongside the rest of us. I have been a bit lax on photo taking due to the sheer laziness factor... but here are a few snapshots of our weekend thus far:

Lazy mornings accompanied by bedheads... well, for two out of three anyway...

The Easter Bunny paid a visit leaving eggs all over the place...

The girls and their loot from the famous bunny. (And, Kate... I kept my word. I am not posting the picture I took, but you didn't say anything about me not posting the picture your Dad took. I mean, you didn't right?...)

Maeve sitting on her new puzzle. Its harder this way, but not impossible...

Part of that lounging thing I was talking about...

Maeve getting her stomach ready for some Easter feasting... Bring it...
