I covet...

digital SLR's... Check out the photos Alison took on our lunch date at Gill's.

Nothing to report here today. It was declared "Lazy Day" and Maeve and I loafed in our loungewear all day. It was very relaxing.... naps were taken all round. Maeve is now tucked in and I'm settling in to watch the Grammy's. Pretty sweet day I'd say.

Rockin' the Hairnet...

How do I rationalize going out for breakfast and then eating about a pound of chocolate, but calling to cancel my run date today? Doesn't take much, turns out.

Maeve and I went out for breakfast this morning to celebrate Amber's birthday tomorrow, and then hung with Shill while taking a tour of Theo's Chocolate Factory this afternoon. Maeve got bored because I wouldn't share my chocolate and therefore, decided to nap for most of it. I think Maeve sports a hairnet pretty well though...

Disaster Kit...

Apparently it is commonplace for all children attending daycare to provide specific "disaster kit" items when they begin. Great idea. I love it. So, Maeve is all set to turn in her space blanket, family photo, glow stick, water, and formula on Monday.

Currently the unchecked item is a "reassuring note to your child." Umm... Okay. I get the concept, but I'm having a little writer's block. What exactly are you supposed to write to an eight month old? "I love you. Insert thumb into mouth. I will be there as soon as I can"... ??

Lunch at Gill's

Alison and I loaded up the kids and headed to the country... ha. I mean, we left the city and had lunch at Gill's. Its not a far stretch to say country though, because they do have a barn and horses on their property... its really beautiful.

Regarding lunch -- the spread was fantastic and it was great to catch up with each other. Lila and Maeve played great and Maeve only fussed when she realized we were all eating lunch without her. How rude of us...

Thanks Gill!

Unimpressed

Making an Impression

Maeve and I went back to her daycare again this morning... to play, and attempt her first nap there (key word: attempt).

Anywho... we arrived and Maeve couldn't have been happier. She LOVES other babies. She just gets so excited... and there is a correlation to how loud she becomes with how excited she is. So, there she is just squealing with delight with a huge grin on her face. Her dimples were about an inch deep, her smile was that big. Well... the happier Maeve got, the more startled one other baby got, which then set off the domino effect. Long story short -- One grinning and excited baby to three upset and crying babies. I just had to laugh, while unsuccessfully trying to turn the volume down, because you could tell she was just saying "hi" to her new friends and was oblivious to the chaos she had just created. Oh, I love her....

And then nap time... well, clearly daycare is way too much fun to sleep through, right? I finally laid her down on her allocated mat, well past her nap time, to see what would happen. Shocker... she didn't sleep. Instead, she just struck up a conversation with another baby on a different mat, chatting away happily... Oh well... she's totally happy, and that's what matters.

2010 Olympics...

We're gearing up for The 2010 Winter Olympics in our household. How fun that they're being held in Vancouver and Whistler. Maeve is more set than me, actually. Here she is sporting her Olympic hoodie....

She's memorized all the athletes names and stats for the events "we" have tickets to...

But, I haven't yet told her that she is not actually attending any of the events... Grandma and Grandpa are way more fun anyway... right?!

Busted...

So, what are you thinking?....

Okay... Listen up. I've got a plan...

What?!? We're totally innocent. Nothing to see here...

Transitioning...

How sad. It has begun. Maeve and I are transitioning to her daycare. Sigh. We spent a couple of hours there today just playing. She did fantastic. She had a great time and was very verbal while she got to know her new friends and teachers. I think she may be labeled the loud one in the class now... oops. Red flagged already. Ha.

I don't dread going back to work, because I actually do love it... but, I certainly have not missed it for the last 2 1/2 months. It has been an amazing experience to be a full-time mom and help Maeve figure out this new life of hers... of ours. She managed that transition pretty seamlessly. I know she'll do just fine. Although, there is one area that I'm worried about us both though -- we live this life of leisure and laziness right now and we are definitely not morning people. It could be ugly.

So... we will enjoy these last couple of weeks and get Maeve as comfortable as possible during this time. I do love her daycare... so, that is helpful.

Big Girl...

Such a big girl now... I can't believe it. I've had Maeve in my arms for 2 months plus 3 days now... and she turned 8 months yesterday. She is such a different little girl from when I first held her. She has always been sweet and perfect... but, her personality is becoming so pronounced now. She makes me laugh everyday and I'm amazed at how far she's come in her strength.

So, what are we doing at 8 months old?

  • Sitting on our own.
  • Rolling all over the place.
  • Talking up a storm.
  • Laughing.
  • Eating everything, and quickly. There isn't anything the girl has rejected, thus far.
  • And, I have a visual of her first tooth!

Like, I said... such a big girl now...

She is so so fun. She enhances my life so much.

Happy 8 month birthday Maeve.

Whaooo Hoooo

Congratulations Katie & Joe!! Katie showed up this weekend and shared her exciting news!!! We love weddings...

Finally Captured...

Up until now, I had been unsuccessful in capturing Maeve laughing on video... Maeve thinks Chelsea is hilarious...

Beach Retreat...

Thank you Jeff and Janey (Chelsea's parents) for tearing down the old beach cabin and building a super duper new "cabin" in its place. Oh my... it is beautiful and awesome. And, thank you for letting us help break it in. It is so nice and big, to accommodate our ever growing group.

Maeve and I swung by the airport on Thursday morning to pick up Chelsea and then we headed to Gig Harbor for our R & R holiday... because, we've been so taxed... ha. Throughout the long weekend we were joined by fun friends for our annual girl's weekend (plus Bennett).

So, this is how it went down... through photos:

A rockin' dance party to start the whole weekend off...

Maeve and Amy gettin' down...

Amber and Avery getting ready to explore...

Hanging out with most of the gang.

Umm... a little help here people. Maeve is thinking that it is possible to be loved too much... ha...

Another group shot...

There was plenty of this...

And, this throughout the weekend...

Morning playtime... Bennett making music and Maeve dancing with her arms in the air...

Lazy breakfasts...

And some lounging. Because, that's what we do... and, we do it well...

Eating was a main theme for the adults and kids...

Enjoying the beautiful scenery and weather via kayaks...

Jenn, Chelsea, and Katie...

Maeve helping Melanie play cards and finish her drink...

Chelsea and Maeve...

On the final night we were down to Amber, Chelsea, Amy, and Maeve...

Maeve taking in the view...

Maeve and I just got back a few hours ago... She did fantastic for the whole trip and it was a great five days. One thing that I already knew, but its always nice to have confirmed... but, I have some really fun and awesome friends. Thanks for the good times girls.

The Money Shot...

Maeve is perfecting the game.... "oh, whoops... I dropped my toy. It would be really great if you picked that up for me so that I could accidentally drop it again."

She's getting so good that she can now aim AND hit her mark. As I was doing her hair this morning in her spa chair, AKA bumbo, in front of her mirror.... she managed to throw her bath bug right into the open toilet. Though I applaud her skills, I'm not liking where this game is heading.

Note to self... put down the lid for all future hair sessions.

So?

Is Maeve sleeping through the night now?!? Yeah, no. Oh well... it was fun while it lasted. One night. One can only hope it will repeat itself in the future... the near future would be nice.

Today was great. It was gorgeous out and we happened to have our social calendar full... Shill and I ran around the lake and then enjoyed the warm, sunny day outside of the local Starbucks. Maeve was able to tell Shill all about her recent activities and travels. Then, Melissa came over to play with Maeve. Maeve does love that girl... Melissa is seriously a baby whisperer. I'm not sure what Melissa coos into the ears of babies and toddlers, but they all fall over themselves to play with her. And, to wrap things up, Maeve and I met our new friends, Isa B (the cutest lil' 2 year old also adopted from Ethiopia from a single mom) and Katie for some Ethiopian dinner... Sadly, we both forgot our camera... next time.

Maeve and I ended the evening with some more play time, book reading, and apparently, some book eating...

Apology Accepted...

Who's officially a rock star?? Maeve slept non-stop from 8:15pm to 7:45am this morning... Yay for Maeve! Yay for me!

Classically, I woke up at 5am and then wondered if she was alive... I wasn't stupid enough to loudly creak into her room (she has some obnoxiously loud floorboards entering her room), but I did grab the monitor and turn it way up to make sure she was breathing. She was. Monitor turned back down. Me, back to sleep on and off until she woke up... it felt so amazing to sleep a long stretch once again.

Now, I'm not ignorant enough to think she'll do this from here on out... I'm sure it was a fluke. But, now she can't use the excuse that she's not capable of this big girl feat....

Yay Maeve!! (maybe some positive reinforcement will work on her psyche?! worth the effort, I say)

Water Bug...

No shock to me based on how much Maeve loves her bath, but its clear that Maeve loves to swim as well. No hesitation, no complaints... She doesn't mind water on her face, in her ears, or even being splashed... Maeve, Great Uncle Reg, and I, headed to pool yesterday with Maeve's fan club in tow (Gran, Great Grandma and Grandpa). By the end of our swim session Maeve was kicking her legs and splashing both of us, purposefully, with both of her hands. Such a smart and talented girl...

Home...

Maeve and I are back home and she's sleeping soundly in her crib. She was a very very good traveler today, aside from the fact an occasional squeal escaped... I'm not sure who is to blame, in the Arizona crew, for teaching Maeve how to activate the higher octaves, but we need to have words. Ha... No, seriously.

We had a really nice time visiting family and enjoying the sunshine. Maeve proved to be quite the entertainment for the Mesa family throughout the week... I'm not quite sure what they're planning to do now to fill their retired time. Here are some family photos... too bad we waited until Maeve was tired to take the pictures. What are you gonna do?!
