Last night was a big night. The Ben Towne Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation was launched in a big way with a benefit dinner. Jeff and Carin (Ben's parents) both spoke so passionately and eloquently to inspire a room of almost 600 people. Those 600 people can inspire countless others. I am writing so that you will take a moment to check out this Foundation and help Jeff and Carin start a movement. A movement that will eradicate pediatric cancer entirely.
Some of the information is staggering. Approximately 1 in 300 children will get cancer. That statistic alone had me pulling Maeve out of her crib last night, after returning from the dinner, to just hold her. 1 in 300. And, only 3 percent of the National Institute of Cancer budget is allocated to pediatric research. That is not enough.
So, to honor Ben, and so many countless little lives before and after him, the Ben Towne Foundation is bound and determined to make a big difference in the future lives of children afflicted with cancer.
Ben. I miss you buddy. Your parents are honoring you in an unbelievable way. So, "come on everybody"... let's make a big difference.
Also -- check out this post from Karen, Katie's mom -- who I also cared for and greatly miss. Karen sheds light to the new Doc in town and how his research is making a huge impact already.
