I have become THAT mom...

Maeve had her big pediatrician's appointment today... which resulted in her getting 4 immunization and flu shots, plus a blood draw. So, what does this high maintenance mom do? Well, first off, I covered her thighs with LMX and tegaderm... I would want my skin to be numb before they attacked me with needles. I do have to say... there was very little reaction when she was bombarded... I'm just sayin's all.

And, then I took it a step further. Instead of having her stuck for her blood draw at the doctor's office, I walked to Children's Hospital across the street so that they could do the honor instead. Of course, she was LMX'd again. I was rethinking my brilliant plan after sitting in the lab waiting room for over an hour, however. All in all, Maeve did great and wasn't bothered at all with the poke, or even when they were searching for her vein, over and over again (sigh)... she was bothered, however, when they had to insert the needle all the way to find the vein. But, she recovered quickly and forgave immediately.

Before I forget... Her 6 month stats:

Weight: 15 lbs 15 ounces (41st percentile)
Length: 26.5 inches (67th percentile)
Head Circumference: 44.5 cm (90th percentile)

Maeve's doctor was really pleased with how she is doing developmentally -- she is right on track. Yay Maeve.

I love it! Have a few more and you will take them home and draw the blood yourself. What are you doing tomorrow? I'm pretty free all day. Give me a call

This is really funny, and it brings back memories. How different it must be, to be the mom of the patient, instead of the nurse!
I hope you don't mind that I posted photos of you (with Katie, Christmas Eve, 2006) on my blog. I also mentioned your blog. You made a bad situation bearable. We were so glad that you were on deck with us that night/day! XO

I am grateful for the wonderful shot-givers at our peds clinic. Seriously, the MA once had 3 shots in and band-aids on in under 30 seconds. I was in awe and Isa was quickly distracted by the cookies she gave her. So much easier for the Mama when those painful bits go smoothly and quickly!

Love it Shauna!! I'm happy to give you child life tips any time...but, knowing you, you're a super star at being a mum, nurse, and child life specialist all at the same time. :) Hugs from afar...
